Galice, Oregon
Galice is located in Josephine County, northwest of Grants Pass, between Galice and Almeda along Galice Hwy. Established in 1852, Galice was once known as "Galiceburg" which was a short distance up Galice Creek from Skull Bar or Lower Town at the mouth of the creek. The present community is downstream from the creek on a bench above the Rogue River. Galice was established when rich placer gold finds brought large number of miner families into the area. One of the largest mines in Southern Oregon, the Old Channel, is in this area among many others.

The little hamlet of Galice is located northeast of Grants Pass and is the home base for many outfitters and fishing guides. This and the fact that Galice is close to the 84-mile segment of the Rogue River set aside by Congress under the National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act of 1968, is why Galice is known as the "Gateway To The Wild & Scenic Rogue River."
Also located nearby is the famous Hellgate Canyon (on Galice Hwy.) where the famous movie "Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid" (starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford) was filmed. Above Galice is Grave Creek, the starting point for the 32 mile "wild" section of the Rogue River. Great white water rafting, fishing and guided tours are some of the activities available in the Galice area. One of the best hiking trails around is the famous Rogue River Wild and Scenic Trail which starts at Grave Creek above Galice and runs downstream 40 miles through the Wild and Scenic section of the Rogue River to Foster Bar.

Airport is located at Grants Pass, approximately 12 miles from Galice.
