Thursday 8th May 21.00hrs They had just finished the meal that had been sent up from the kitchens when her cell phone chirped, she wasn't going to answer it having a gut feeling that it would be Paige, but Lexi insisted. She flipped it open and saw Paige's number displayed, confirming her suspicions. She pressed the green button to connect, and answered it carefully, "Yes Paige?" "If you can bear to tear yourself away from Mercy Street, Baz and I are downstairs, and eager to meet your `friend' again." The tone in Paige's voice bordered on sarcasm, and Saf knew that she was perfectly capable of storming the penthouse if Saf didn't go downstairs; all she could do was to go down and say a quick hello and then retreat swiftly. "Fine. I'm upstairs in Lexi's apartment, give me 10 mins." she muttered and pressed the red button to disconnect before turning to Alexei. "That was Paige, she is downstairs, and wants us to go down and have a drink with her." She looked up at him her hunger for him apparent in her eyes, "I don't want to, but she is covering up for me at work.." he smiled, holding her to him, "and if we go down, and say hello, she will go away again and I can have you all to myself again." That is what she loved about him, the way he made her feel safe and loved, and she eagerly anticipated their return upstairs when she would be able to show him just how much he meant to her. Reluctantly she changed into something appropriate for the club, although the strip she performed for Lexi, nearly backfired as he pulled her to him so she could feel the affect of her performance on his body. She pulled away from him, and tidied her hair, where he had mussed it, and as she looked at her reflection in the mirror she almost didn't recognise herself in the reflection looking back at her. That woman looked as though she were on drugs; the pupils in her eyes were so dark they almost looked black, and her lips were engorged and puffy. She smiled, and so did the other woman, she touched up her makeup, glossing her lips and painting her eyes before she put on the necklace that Lexi had given her, and thought no more about it. Going downstairs in the elevator, she made him hold her close to him, as though she would be torn away if he didn't hold on to her tightly. When it reached the lower floor, she hesitated, as though she would rather go back upstairs, but she slowly walked at Lexi's side as they entered the main club. The music was different, a new style, when she mentioned it to Lexi, he gestured towards the DJ stage, "a new guy, he's from Russia, his name is Yevgeniy Zakharov. He arrived two days ago." She didn't really care about his answer, it was just a time filler. She just wanted to get this meeting over and done with so they could return upstairs and to their unfinished business. Paige and Baz were at the bar, she leaned forward and kissed Paige on the cheek, "Keep it short, I haven't finished with Mercy Street just yet." Under cover of their embrace, Paige's response was equally terse, "You are on dangerous ground." Saf pulled away, "Do you want a drink?" Baz shook his head, "No thanks Kat, we are just fine." His voice was cool, stiff with disapproval. She shrugged, and leaned back into Alexei's firm body; he felt so good, strong and warm. Suddenly, he moved away from her, a man touching his elbow drawing him away. She stood there watching him, wondering what the problem was, when he turned back to her, "Katrin, it's just a small problem, I won't be long, but if I am delayed you have your key don't you?" she took the small key out of her purse, and showed him, "Don't be too long, I am hungry." She smiled secretively, her innocent words, telling him volumes. He moved away slowly, almost reluctantly and she watched him until he was out of her sight, before she turned to Paige and Baz, "Ok, so why are you two here? I don't think it was just to meet Lexi again or to see if I was alright. So what gives?" Paige turned to Baz, who gave her a long look, before she turned back to Saf. "OK, OK. Hands up I admit it. You seem a bit distracted, you haven't been into work and I can't keep covering for you. I need to know how long you are planning to stay holed up here, I guess you were upstairs in his apartment, can we see it?" Saf shook her head, "Sorry, but Lexi doesn't like strangers upstairs." Paige nodded looking towards Baz, "Sure. Whatever. How about that drink now?" Saf turned to the waiter, and as she did so, Baz seemed to knock her hand, and her purse fell on the floor. Paige bent down to pick it up, and then handed it back to Saf, When the drinks came, she put the purse down on the seat between them, and they passed the next half hour in general chit-chat about nothing in particular. Saf kept looking out for Lexi, concerned at the length of time that he was taking. When she saw his head appear she was relieved, and stood up, ignoring her companions, eagerly anticipating having Lexi to herself, upstairs. He bent down and kissed her, as far as she was concerned nothing else existed but them, she put her arms around his neck, stretching up, leaning into his body. "Have you finished your reunion?" he asked, Baz was looking away, Paige shrugged, "I guess so, unless you plan on showing us around the joint?" he smiled, a little discomforted, "Another time perhaps. Kat and I have some unfinished business to attend to. If you will excuse us." "Like you said, another time" Paige replied, Saf looked at her, but she didn't want to start an argument now, perhaps she could take them around another time. She raised a hand in farewell and turned to walk away, when Paige spoke out "Did you forget something?" she turned back and Paige was holding her purse in her hand. She took it, "Thanks, I'll be in touch," and turned back to Lexi. She thought she heard the reply "Yeh, right" but when she turned her head, Paige just smiled at her, a strange expression on her face. She didn't waste another moment on it, Paige had always hated it when she was had been in a relationship with a man. Paige hadn't got on with Sean, demonstrating an almost pathetic jealousy, and now it was the same with Lexi. Well she would just have to get over it. She ran to catch up Lexi, and he put an arm around her shoulders, kissing the top of her head. "I asked Sasha to put some champagne on ice, it should be nice and cold." She smiled, and whispered in his ear, "That's good, because I am hot for you." He laughed, hugging her close to him, "That sounds like a good combination to me, let's not wait too long, you don't want to go off the boil." The ride up in the lift, seemed to last for ever, but finally it opened onto the floor. Once inside the apartment, she couldn't settle, and even when they had finished the champagne she still felt as though everything was starting to fall apart. She turned to Lexi and whispered, "Take me away Lexi, somewhere only we know about." He looked at her, puzzled, "but your job?" She shook her head, "it's not important. The only thing that is important to me is you." She was serious, if Alexei would take her away, she would go with him and without a backward glance. Section 1 would have found her, but the SIA? She doubted that they would even try, and Paige, well Paige was Paige, sometimes everyone had to stand on their own two feet for a change. He shook his head, "I wish I could Katrin, but it is impossible. I have businesses to run.." his voice trailed off. She looked at him, she had asked too much of him. She smiled, "Just kidding. I know, but I can have my dreams, can't I?" For an answer he pulled her to him and kissed her, his tongue dancing with hers and she didn't want to talk, her mind and body fully occupied with what his body was doing to hers. She would have the now, and deal with tomorrow when it came; with any luck she could have her work and him both. Or else she would give up her work, for he was too important for her to relinquish that easily. Return |
