May 7th, 2008 The day was spent looking round the city, getting to know where things were. He knew he had a tail so he kept up the charade for the entire afternoon. When the time came for his tail to tell Alexei what he had done, all he could say was that Nikolai spent the day in tourist mode. What the tail didn't know was that Maksim was also out and about, and right in front of the tail's eyes a brush pass was conducted with Maksim passing over the intelligence he and Olesya had gathered the other night. The pass was flawless, and the tail was none the wiser. Nikolai simply slipped the disc into his pocket and at the same time removed a piece of chewing gum from the pocket. Placing it in his mouth he allowed himself a small smile at how easy it all was. He continued on, taking the tail on yet another meaningless journey until he finally began to tire or it all and made his way back to the hotel. He checked his mail and wasn't surprised to find he had none, seeing as no one knew that he was here. Well, not anyone who would be sending him mail. Later that evening he decided to both corroborate and further the information he had received from Maksim. He was admitted to the club without hassle this time, and quickly made his way over to the DJ booth, simply because there was a better view from the elevated platform. One of the American DJ's, JJ, was mixing up his own style of house for the masses, and he gave Nikolai a wave gesturing him to come into the booth. Nikolai complied. "What's up Vibe?" he asked. Yevgeniy wasn't the easiest name to remember or say for the Americans, so he was known as Vibe, his DJ name. "Not much JJ, just checking out the place before tomorrow. I was wondering whether or not to roughen things up a bit, you know, drop in some UK beats." JJ nodded. "The stuff you played last night was good, but I've heard you like the UK flava. I say play a bit of both. You playing tomorrow then?" "Yeah," Nikolai replied, "doing another late set. Anyways, I'll catch you later." "Yeah, later Vibe." By the end of the night he had a comprehensive knowledge of the first three floors of the club, and a good knowledge of the fourth. Alexei's private quarters had proven to be a step too far, so he would have to try a different approach. Quite what that would be was beyond him at that moment but he knew it would get worked out. It was just a matter or time. He left the club having not seen Alexei all evening. The word in the club was that he had a new woman in his life and spent a lot of time with her. In a normal workplace there would have been remarks made about that fact, whether in jest or just for amusement, but here there was nothing of the sort. Either the staff where extremely focused on their job or they were scared of him. Now what do you do to scare them, he asked Alexei in his mind. There was a lot more to him than a club owner, and the missing information was the key to this whole mission. It wasn't often that Sergei withheld information from him, but on the occasions that he had Nikolai had had to figure things out for himself, just like he was doing now. Back at the hotel he found a note hanging from his doorknob. He opened it and read the letter that was inside. The contents made his mouth salivate ever so slightly, and he quickly punched in the code before racing into the suite. There on the floor by the couches were several boxes neatly stacked. He knew exactly what they were, and before opening them he looked around and decided where they would go. The was a desk in the corner that had only a few items on it, so he cleared that up and moved the boxes over beside the table. The first box he opened contained one of the Technic decks, which he placed on the left-hand side of the desk. Working quickly in anticipation of using the system he assembled the first deck and repeated the procedure with the second one. Next came the mixer. Nikolai nearly gasped with amazement as he pulled the gleaming silver box out and hooked the turntables up to it. Once he had finished setting up the various components he began mixing and didn't stop till he felt comfortable with the equipment. At that point he decided something and made a promise to himself: whatever happened on this mission he was going to take the equipment before he left. Return |
