Back at his perch he had time to think. He had managed to get out of the flat without waking her, and had therefore avoided answering any more questions. That in itself was a notable achievement, and one which he was proud to have accomplished. He did not like lying to her but he knew that he had no other choice; telling her the truth would only get her killed, and that was something he just wouldn't allow. You should never have brought her into this, his mind told him, ignoring the fact that it was Hollie's decision to pursue him last night which lead to their reunion.

Things had become complicated now, dangerously so. If he could have said no to her and stayed at the hotel then things would have been so much simpler, but even then he knew that by staying at her flat he had removed another variable, and that was a good thing. It just so happened that that variable had been removed with the addition of another, so they cancelled each other out. Well fuck it, its happened. There was nothing left to do but accept it and carry on.

At least, that was the plan. Just like before there was no indication that He was even here. No doubt he was elsewhere, but for the sake of thoroughness he would continue with the surveillance for the remainder of the day/night, then try something else tomorrow. He only had a couple of ideas about what he could do but he had plenty of time to work it all out. He hadn't given himself a deadline yet, and he wasn't even sure if he would, but for the moment time was on his side despite the fact that he was planning on stepping up his efforts.

The day wore on, the hands on his watch steadily making their way round the dial, indicating the continuation of time in a way that seemed to contradict the frustratingly slow pace of the day. The sun was up, a rare sight in this country, or so the locals thought as they walked around in short-sleeved tops with another longer one kept on their person, just in case, they told themselves, for they did not fully trust the weather. Its not the weather you should be concerned about, he told them in his mind. They just didn't realise that people like Him were walking among them, moving around freely, just awaiting the opportunity to stab a knife deep in the back of those they had managed to fool. It was so obvious to him now, but back then he had been just as nave as those he saw walking down this road. At least he was older now, and wiser. He knew the dangers and was prepared for them. More than that he was going to confront them head on. It suddenly became a little clearer to him. He was not on a mission on revenge, at least not fully. This was a rescue mission. He was going to rescue people from making the same mistake he did. Things were now beginning to fall into place. His objective hadn't changed but his motive had. Something tugged at his mind and he couldn't shake it. Was Hollie responsible for this change? He wouldn't put it past her.

Hollie's Flat

At just gone two in the morning he made his way back to her flat. She hadn't gone out, that much was obvious from the light on in her window. He put down the bag containing some of his clothes and knocked on the door. After a few seconds the door opened, but it was not Hollie who was standing in front of him.

"Who are you?" the girl asked, a towel wrapped around her, her long black hair still wet from the shower. She didn't give him a chance to tell her, instead making the connection herself. "You Nick?"

"Yes," he replied. He felt awkward, picturing how things must look to her. What would she think of him? Hollie would have told her that he was an old friend who she hadn't seen for a while, but would she believe that? Probably not, even though it was the truth. She would probably think he was an old flame or something, so he would have to tread carefully.

"Come in." She moved back and allowed him to enter. "Hollie is asleep. I'm sure you know where her room is" she told him with a wicked grin on her face.

"Surprisingly enough I don't, but the floor was comfortable enough last night," he replied, and the look on her face told him that he had prevented that particular line of conversation from going any further. Or so he thought.

"Well, if it gets too hard for you just give me a shout and I'll help you out." She winked and walked seductively off towards her room.

"Shit," he said under his breath having just gotten what she had said. It had never been this bad before. Two years really makes a difference, he told himself as he settled down on the floor. Sleep usually didn't find him fast, so he had time to mull over the days events, and he made a decision about what he would do next.
