Team Myech Room June 7, 2008, 1700 hours He stared at the information on the screen. The screen he was looking at was a smaller version of the one used in the briefing rooms; each team member had their own individual seat, and each seat had a screen that emerged from its hiding place in the ceiling to `sit' in front of the team member at the correct height. The headset allowed the team to control the contents of the screen using voice, making things much easier. It also allowed them to go through at lot more information, which is what he was doing now. He had been reading through the information of Petrenko for over an hour now, even though it wasn't really necessary for him seeing as he was to provide overwatch and thus would not be coming into contact with the target. Despite this he continued, processing as much of the information as he could, knowing that it could prove useful. He would never have thought he'd be doing what was essentially revision but things change. The again, this was far more important than any of the exams he had sat, and if he'd gotten through them without doing any revision then by learning about Petrenko he would surely succeed. 1800 hours He told the screen to shutdown, watching the on-screen content disappear, leaving behind a clear screen. Standing up he made his way out of the room and towards the lift. He entered his security information and waited for the lift to take him to his floor. Once the doors opened he made his way to Sergei's office. "You wanted to see me?" "Yes," Sergei replied, pointing to the empty seat. Nikolai took it. "I have received confirmation that the failed assassination attempt was carried out yesterday evening. Petrenko was moved to his alternate Dacha and is currently being protected by the army. Your team will be moving in now to rendezvous with Petrenko in little over an hour. As I explained earlier you will be providing overwatch, and you also have command. This means you cannot let Petrenko learn of your presence, otherwise the whole mission is blown. I know you understand this but I have to repeat it." He nodded his head. "I'm ready for this." "Yes," Sergei said quietly. "I saw the results of your medical, and I must say I was somewhat surprised with how lightly you appeared to get off. After all, its not often that one can get injuries as extensive as yours and be passed fit." The tone of Sergei's voice told Nikolai that he knew a bribe had been given. Damn, the old man was good, he thought. Well, the bribe had been nothing like a James Bond-style sex romp, far from it in fact, even though the nurse was cute as hell. He smiled at the thought. He had indeed gotten off lightly, and even if he had been offered sex he wouldn't have taken it for he knew where his heart lay, and nothing would change that. As for the bribe, well, the nurse had simply asked him to make sure that Innokenteiy asked her out for dinner when he returned. That had prompted an immediate smile, followed by the thought: you lucky bastard. "What can I say, I'm an amazing specimen." Sergei didn't look convinced. "If we fuck this up-" "Not on my watch. This is going down just how I want it. I'm planning for contingencies even as we speak and we will be prepared for anything. I have four of the best people on the planet working with me, and I'm ready for this. I've even been reading up on Petrenko," he said with a sly smile. "I'm impressed," Sergei told him, thinking that his young charge really had changed. "Ok, you are free to go. Good luck Kolya." "Thanks. Just remember to take care of Lena for me, make sure her and my baby are safe and well. And if there are any developments" "You will be the first to know. Now go!" "Yes sir." 1807 hours "Ok team, let's saddle up! Mission is Go, and it is time to boogie." He watched as his team took the news like any other; a small nod of the head, a smile to the person standing next to them. They were the best of the best, and they were his to command. Life didn't get much better than this. "Is everything set?" Maksim asked as he came alongside. Maksim would be leading the `protection' detail. "Yes, the wheels are in motion and it is time for us to hop on the train." They laughed at that. It was good having someone like him as his number two; the experience was a major asset. Maksim had been there and done that on every continent, and the lessons he had learned where a powerful tool for the relatively young Team Myech. "Ok team, this is how it's gonna play. You will be met at the destination airport by FSO officers who will take you to Petrenko. From there you will escort him to work, stay with him all day, and then transfer him to his Dacha. Whilst you are guarding him at work I will infiltrate the Dacha and place surveillance equipment. From the moment we leave this site we be known by our legends. These will hold up against any security checks; they have already in fact, which is how you got to be `assigned' to Petrenko." He looked at them. "Are we ready?" "Da," they replied in unison, standing and filing out of the holding area and into the waiting van. This would take them to the small private airfield they owned and operated out of. This time they would be flying in a standard private jet, not their own Sukhoi NXX. It was thought that they would appear less conspicuous if they used fairly regular transport and not the RGZS's hi-tech alternatives. The idea was to appear to be exactly the same as the usual highly-trained bodyguards, something which would require a little effort seeing as they were massively overqualified. Some things just couldn't be helped though. Return |
