"Crimson Pumpkin"

"Red and orange...very nice," Paige smiled at Baz as she tussled his newly colored hair. They sat comfortably in the Safehouse waiting for the start of the briefing. She was aware of the Beta team, especially Eric, but did not acknowledge them, there would be time for that later. Right now, picking on Baz was priority on the agenda.

"Again," he said looking at her seriously, "I have to inform you of the latest fashion trends, which is pitiful being you are a woman, seem to have no grasp for."

"Since when is pumpkin orange and crimson red hair considered fashion?" Jordan giggled at him.

"Ugh, you too, Jordy. Absolutely no fashion sense. You ARE both women, right?"

Paige leaned into Jordan lowering her voice as they both attentively studied Baz. "Maybe he's gay."

Jordan nodded her head, "it is possible that manly exterior is just a front. Maybe he bats for the other team."

"Maybe he bats both ways?" They looked at each other.

"Maybe I need to take a bat to both your heads," Baz said with narrowed eyes, though the spark in them showed he was kidding.

"Maybe he likes bats?" Jordan said quickly and they both burst out laughing.

Baz sat there, "oh, funny. I'll have you know I love the ladies thank you very much. That's why I got rostered with three of them."

"Maybe they thought you'd just feel more comfortable...you know...with chicks." That comment earned Jordan a soft punch in her arm from Baz, and Paige believed, had they not been in at SH1 moments before a briefing, a huge tag team tickling match would have ensued. But fun and games were over with one sound.

What made her think it would have been different? When her eyes lifted to the sound of the opening door, why did she think her reaction would have been different?

Because she had sworn to herself that it would have been? Pfft - since when was she the strong one? Just who the hell did she think she was anyway? She could almost feel the burn on her wrists from his leather belt. She could almost feel the moment he had broken her, again, when she had nodded her consent silently. Almost feel him moving over her, shattering whatever resolve he thought might persist, pulling her into the euphoric frenzy that was Joshua. She couldn't say no, she could never say no to that, could never find the right words.

Still couldn't.

And she had nodded her head even as she suppressed a shiver as his eyes locked on hers. It was done by him innocently enough, a simple look around the room to see who was there, if everyone had shown up. But he did not see anyone until he had found her. Until he had found what belonged to him. Then the look continued, addressing the rest of the room that could not possibly deny his entrance. It was hard to deny something as physical as Joshua. He was just...there.

His eyes fixed on the one across the room, the one out of place and not assembled with the rest of them. Safara. She saw the glow flicker in his eyes, a green flash as dark as her own. But it was gone almost in the same instant. Her greatest enemy and her best friend. She knew, in his mind, it was a competition, a battle for her soul. And she suppressed another shiver.

"You all look very comfortable," Gray smiled brightly at all of them strewn out across fluffy chairs. "But the briefing will be in the conference room."

"Ladies," Baz grabbed both her and Jordan's hands pulling them up. "To the conference room."

They both grinned and rolled their eyes heading towards the far conference room. Joshua stood near the entrance watching as everyone filed by. It seemed he was always watching, always waiting for something.

"Dude," Baz said extended his hand to Joshua who took it easily. "You still owe me fifty bucks."

Fifty bucks? Why would he owe Baz money?

"You'll get your money," Joshua grinned at him.

"Damn right, cuz I know where you live now," Baz grinned back letting go of Joshua's hand.

And Baz knows where he lives??? Damn them two being friends. I'm screwing the guy and I don't even know where he lives.

"So?" Joshua shrugged.

"So? I'll come kick your ass."

Yeah, that'll happen - have you seen how big he is Baz?

"Ok, like that'll happen," Joshua rolled his eyes as Baz moved behind the girls into the conference room. "Nice hair you freak," Joshua said playfully swatting Baz behind the head earning himself a mock glare.

"I'll kick your ass just for that," Baz muttered as Joshua grinned back at him.

"If you're quite through, Sebastian," Gray admonished Baz as he beckoned for him to take a seat. Baz finally did moving a chair around so he could sit between Paige and Jordan. As soon as he sat down, he let out a big sigh, and kicked both of them under the table. "Sorry," he whispered sarcastically.

"Jerk," they whispered back in unison as they settled in and Gray began the briefing.
