May 27, 2008, Tuesday Joshua's Apartment, Hoboken 2033 hours Joshua slumped in his chair with his head in his hand. He sighed as he listened to the four men and one woman drone through an endless conversation on his speaker phone. It was another Oversight conference call, something they did, much to his displeasure, about once a week. He didn't enjoy it but if he wanted to keep his position, he would have to play this game as well. He tapped at his laptop lazily surfing the internet when his cell phone rang. Glad for the distraction he muted the speaker phone and grabbed the celly. He was even happier seeing it was Baz. "Hey," he answered the phone. "Joshua, it's Baz." "What's up?" he asked getting a twinge of 'something isn't right' in the pit of his stomach. "They took Paige," he said in a hushed voice. It took a moment for Baz's word to sink in. "What? Who?" "I dunno who. Paige and I were walking back from the marina. This van stopped and four guys got out, dressed in black, and armed to the hilt. I'm watching them now." "How? Where are you?" "Paige got them to let me go, she told them I was a civilian. But I couldn't just leave her there so I walked up the road and I'm watching them now." "Is she ok?" "They're moving her in the van now." "Baz, they aren't gonna let you go. You need to get out of there. Go out to Ernston Road, find someplace public, I'll come pick you up." "Yeah, ok. Who the fuck are..." Joshua heard some noises then another male voice on the phone, "he'll call you back." Then the line simply went dead. "Fuck," Joshua muttered and dialed another number quickly. "Michael, it's me." "What's wrong?" Michael asked flatly. "I just got a phone call from one of Paige's team mates. A Section team just took her in." There was a pause. "Not a Section One team." "Check the others," Joshua said. There was another significant pause before Michael spoke again. "There aren't any teams in your area. If it was Section than they aren't working under standard protocols." "Yeah, and I know who's behind it." "She won't hurt Paige..." "Not until she gets what she wants. Activate Paige's tracker and load up everything to my laptop, I'm going to get her." "I'll get my team and be there as soon as I can." "Fine but I'm not waiting. I'll call in Safara and Jordan..." "They will demand to know what's going on." "Well, I'll just have to tell them..." "You can't do that." "I don't think that matters anymore, she crossed the fucking line this time," Joshua hissed. "I'll keep it need to know with Saf and Jordan but we don't know how much time we have and I'm not gonna see our plans go down the shitter because of that bitch. This is it, Michael, we started this game...now we finish it." "I'll be there as soon as I can," Michael said. "Fine," Joshua replied and hung up the phone. He tapped the mute off, "I'm sorry, I have a problem with a couple of the Agents here, I have to diffuse the situation." "I hope it's nothing serious," one of the men said. Joshua rolled his eyes at the sarcastic comment but kept his own voice in check. "I'm sure it's not, but I have to take care of it sooner rather than later." "Right then, we'll send you the minutes to the meeting. I look forward to your comments." "Thank you, have a good night." There were other good nights exchanged but Joshua disconnected the line. He dialed his cell phone. "Hello?" "Safara, it's Joshua." "Yes?" "We have an emergency. Call in Jordan to your place I'll be there as soon as I can to explain." "What's going on?" He knew he would have to give her something. "This doesn't go to the SIA. Paige and Baz were just taken in by a Section team working covertly." There was a pause before Safara spoke. "When will you be here?" He could hear the anger now underlying her tone, "I'll be there within the hour." "Alright, we'll be here." He hung up the phone and stood for a moment staring out of the window. An image of Paige's face caught in his mind, he could only imagine what she must be feeling, what thoughts might be racing through her mind. She would think she's going back to Section, and Joshua could thank himself for that. He remembered back to Sunday night when she had taken control for herself. She had brought him to a place he never dreamed of and had so profoundly expressed herself that night. He had never experienced something so powerful and so humbling at the same time. He had woken up, still bound, and Paige hovering over him. 'Let me go' he had whispered and he had caught the guarded look when she made no effort to untie him. She was afraid, he could see it in her eyes, after all, he had put that fear there and he knew exactly where to find it. 'I'm not gonna hurt you' he had assured her. She thought for a moment as she chewed her lip (which always drove him lustfully mad) before she finally let him go. He pounced on her, though sore and stiff, he was still quick enough to catch her off guard. He pinned her down using his weight to keep her still. 'You think you know pain, sweetness?' he had whispered to her as her eyes widened the slightest bit and her breath picked up speed, each puff blowing across his neck and moving his hair. 'You think you know pain?' 'You never said to stop' she hissed at him as he watched the fire leap into her dark eyes. 'You think pain is what happens when someone hits you or bites you or scratches you? No...true pain is when those voices in your head tell you that what you're doing is wrong, sadistic, sick, and you start to believe them. Just a little...for a second, and the pain is so deep, so great, that it leaves a mark. A bright, shining mark, that on a good day you don't even know you have those marks. And on an average day, you can pretend they're not there. But on a bad day, they're all there is to you. All I am, Paige, all I fucking am are the marks, the scars, the wounds, and the pain, just the pain and all the hurt in the world upon my shoulders.' He watched as her eyes narrowed in understanding. She was beginning to get it, beginning to understand what he had been talking about, what he had been feeling...what she was feeling. 'That's why I couldn't say stop, why I couldn't say no. You found the edge Paige,' he let her arms go leaning back slightly. 'You found your dark side' he whispered in her ear 'don't let it scare you.' Then he found himself forcing himself on her. But he was not cruel like she had been, he was gentle, tender in drawing her back into his control, into his wants, and his needs. To be fair, he didn't think either of them could handle anything other than gentle. Still, that time it had been different, it had never been like that, the act itself...wasn't just sex. Wasn't - wasn't fucking. Wasn't making love either. It was something else entirely, a bonding of two creatures almost on level, almost on par, almost equals, and that made Paige's submission so much more erotic to watch. She was beginning to achieve something he had achieved years earlier and she was becoming totally his. Just as he was absolutely hers. He also had revelations that morning. He never imagined, not in a million years, that there was someone like him, someone that could match his intensity. He hadn't even known he had been looking...but he had found it. Found it in Paige. A soft moan escaped Joshua's lips, and he wrapped his arms around himself, trying to physically hold the pain in, as if the action would prevent it from crippling him. He fell to his knees, all his world crashing around him, reality delivering an almost fatal blow and he was left eviscerated... hollow. More so than he had ever been. He had just found her, just found the one, his other half. How could he now expect to live without her? It wasn't supposed to be like this, wasn't supposed to go down this way. What had happened? What had gone wrong? Where had they made their mistake? He didn't know and he didn't have time to think about it. He had to find her and he had to bring her back. It meant everything, not only to his plans, but to himself, too. There was no use denying that anymore. Joshua stood, determination set on his face and clenched into his jaw. He owned her, she was his, all his, she was his possession and one that he would protect with ferocious intensity. And anyone who dared to stand in his way...would die. He packed his laptop and a duffel bag with weapons, kevlars, comms, and other various equipment they would need. He tossed everything in his truck and headed to Safara's house planning out what he was going to tell them. Return |
