May 30, 2008 Safehouse 1 Manhattan, New York 1423 hours Jordan stared at the book in her hands. It was the color of brown leather (felt like it too) and the spine was gold. Opening it up she saw the marbled end papers and noted that the book looked a little worn, but other then that it was in great condition. "It's by Andrew Sparrman as you can see, about Cook's voyage to the Cape of Good Hope, towards Antarctica. It was written in 1776, while Sparrman was on the voyage with Cook. It's approximate worth is six thousand American dollars," Gray explained. She sucked her breath in, almost at awe that she was holding a book worth that much. "I trust you find that acceptable?" Gray inquired. "More than acceptable. Do you have any other information on it?" "Of course, here." Gray said, handing her a couple pieces of paper, "All you'll ever need" "Great, thank you." "So have you let your staff know you're back yet?" "No, not yet, I'm probably go there after I leave here," she answered, wondering what he was getting at, if anything. "Good. I don't want them to think that something is going on with you being away for so long. Especially with those bruises on your arms." She looked down, realizing the bruises were from the little *joy ride* with Joshua. Gray would pick up on thatthe bruises on her arms where too fresh. What did he know? "Ya, I'll keep my eye on them, but I don't think they will have a problem or be suspicious of anything." Gray nodded. "But let me know if anything comes up." "Sure, I will. Anything else?" "No, not today." "Okay, I will see ya later then." "Bye Jordan." She rose and left Gray sitting on the sofa with his cup of tea. Her cup sat empty on the table. It was a short meeting, yet Gray still had tea ready for when she came and green tea at that. Having been here for a while, this place did not cease amazing her. She walked out into the hallway and came upon Rebecca. "Jordan, hello. How are you?" "Good, thank you. You?" she replied, responding to the politeness, feeling the need to be prim and proper. "Quite well. I see you've finally come to pick up your book." "Yes, it looks like it will be excellent for the store." "I thought so. I trust you are getting well rested from you're mission from Section." "Yes I am," she replied. Rebecca knew about North Carolina? What exactly did she know about it? As if sensing her uneasiness, Rebecca continued, "Don't worry, Joshua told us all about it, the Section Four leader that was putting together a delivery of a chemical that was engineered chemicals for use against individuals. But I won't bore you with the details, you know them all already." Nodding, "Yes. Did Joshua say when to expect Safara back?" She hoped she wasn't asking the wrong thingand wondering what line Joshua had spoon-fed them about Saf. "Oh, within the next couple of days." "Okay, great," she looked at her watch. "I'm sorry Rebecca, but I need to get going. I need to be back at Kendra books within the hour." Rebecca nodded, seeming to understand. "Well, don't let me keep you then. It was nice chatting with you." "Thank you, enjoy the rest of your day Rebecca," she said and continued down the hall. What a mind job that wastrust Joshua to do that. He needed to die. Kendra Books Laurence Harbor, New Jersey 1505 hours "Jordan, it's so great to see you!!" greeted Alyssa, who was dusting the shelves. "How was your trip?" "It went fabulous. You should see the book I have come back with." "Ya, where is it?" "Right here," she replied, setting down her briefcase and opening it up. She pulled out the book and handed it over to Alyssa. "WowI've read about this book. It's worth like 5,000 dollars right?" "6,000, ya. How'd you know about it?" "Well, I have to admit I am a bit of a book fan myself. Always been into the old books because they just don't make them the same way anymore," she replied with a light in her eyes. She nodded in reply. Alyssa was even more book crazed then she was. "So, where are we going to keep it Jordan? With the other expensive books by the counter?" "You betcha, I wouldn't think of anywhere else." "Great, I'll go put it there then. All your mail is on your desk. I opened all the bills and wrote out the cheques like you asked." "Okay, great. Thank you," she replied, yet again thankful that she had Alyssa working for her, otherwise, she feared, this little cover would never have worked at all. She went into the back and into her office. She sat down and her desk and turned on the computer. Besides the screen was a box of tea that Saf had given her, the box was empty, but the scent remained. She picked it up and breathed in the scent of black currents, closing her eyes as she did. What was Saf doing in Section? She sure as hell knew that she wasn't having tea with Oversight. What a fine mess it all was. Nevertheless, Saf would be coming back and even Rebecca had said so. Paige on the other hand, she didn't know what to think. All the data in her head like a computer disk. How exactly did Paige let Joshua put it all in her head or did she do it willingly? She'd have to ask Paige about that. "Jordan, there is someone here to see you. She says she is from the Laurence Harbor Ladies book club," Alyssa said to her by sticking her head only half way into the back room. "Okay, thanks," she replied, getting up to go talk to the lady. She probably wanted to order a certain number of one book or something or another. Return |
