"Day of Sun"
June 13, 2008

Safehouse 1, NY
Rooftop

Paige watched the door shut and fixed her eyes on the sun rising between two buildings. It hadn't really sunken in yet that Baz was dead. 'But that's really not true' she reminded herself. Not really. Baz's death had sunk in just after those bullets sunk into his chest.

Just after her hands ran softly over those gaping holes, almost, but not quite touching him. Just as she looked at him thanking her conscious for not being the killer-become, for not looking into his eyes, because looking for life after death might be acceptable to someone who deserved it, but looking for something in Baz's eyes? That just wasn't right.

When was her time to grieve?

The question itself was a startling conjecture. She had never been allowed to grieve a fallen teammate before so what made her think she would now? Because the SIA was different? Did she really believe that? Paige sighed looking to the picture in her hand given to her by Bella. It was a drawing of Baz, a Baz that was very much alive. "This sucks," she muttered glancing towards the sun again. The sun banked on the windows casting off a strange metallic light. Creepy.

And nowhere near as pretty as a sunrise on the bay.

Paige grunted at the sun and turned to go back into the Safehouse. She made her way down to the main conference area where they had been 'sequestered' for the time being. Joshua was approaching from the opposite direction. He made no gesture to stop her so she just continued into the lounge. What she really wanted to do was go to Medical. Go to medical, find that detective, and inject some lethal dose of...

Saf and Jordan lounging on the couch stopped her thoughts and she dropped herself heavily into the sofa across from them.

"How goes it, Paige?" Jordan asked.

"It sucks. How goes it with you?"

"About the same...sucks," she answered quietly.

"Have you told Brian yet?" Saf asked.

Paige shook her head 'no'. She still had to tell him. God, he was going to be devastated. She sat in silence wondering how she was going to tell him while Jordan and Safara continued their conversation. It wasn't until they fell silent did she look up from staring at her folded hands on her lap. She couldn't see the person they were looking at...but she felt it. She felt him.

"Hey guys," Joshua said taking a seat in one of the oversized chairs.

The three women just looked at him. "I heard what happened to Baz and...basically...you have to put it past you. You have things to do, things to accomplish. If you have any lingering feelings, I highly suggest you lose them."

The three women just looked at him. "Is that going to be a problem?"

They each shook their head 'no'. "Good," he said evenly getting up. "I didn't think it would be a problem," he said before stalking away to Rebecca's office.

"Well," Jordan rolled her eyes, "that certainly was motivational."

Saf just shook her head in disgust. "I'm going to tell Brian," Paige said equally disgusted with Joshua's speech. He could be such a prick sometimes.
