June 13, 2008 0445 hrs Safe House 1 Jordan watched as Rebecca and Gray left the room. She wanted to help with the detective they just brought in, see what he knows and why he was following Baz around. But they couldn't, Rebecca and Gray wouldn't allow it and to top it off, they couldn't leave. They had to stay here and for what? Couldn't they just go home? It would be better to be away from this place. She could go somewhere to forget what she has seen. The image of Baz lying on the ground flashed through her head. She shook her head slightly, trying to get the image out of her head. She glanced at the others quickly, Paige, Safara, and Bella, who were sitting in their chairs, lost in their thoughts. She sighed and looked at the canisters of coffee near the door. Maybe the coffee would stop her hands from shaking, but she didn't get up. She knew full well that coffee would only make it worse. What worse, she wasn't sure. If only this was Section. Section dealt with death so efficiently and quickly. Losing someone was just something that happened. It happened and you continued. But this was not Section. Rebecca's and Gray's own reactions even differed from what she was used to. And they wanted friendships, to maintain their contacts, nothing like Sectionand now Baz was gone. No contact was so much easier. She shivered at her own dark thoughts of wanting to be in Section. She turned her head, watching Bella rise from her chair. Bella was free to leave and she wanted to go with her, if only she could. Bella handed them all a paper before she left the room quickly. She stared down at the paper and saw Baz looking back up at her. He was smiling and happy. He looked so alive. She had the sudden urge to go find the detective, Mr. Nick Tarnes and give him what he was worth: a life for a life. Restless, she rose out of her chair and headed to the coffee. She poured three cups of it and brought it back to the table. No one had said anything yet. "That Bella sure is something," Safara said as she studied her picture. Both Jordan and Paige nodded in agreement. "She's got Baz down to a T, including that glitter in his eyes. He was one of us, he was us." Jordy commented. She paused, wanting to go one, but unable to find the words. The memory of Baz lying on the cold pavement was still too fresh in her mind. "Bella has this intuition about hershe sees things that are hidden but they aren't. You know?" Paige commented. They sat in silence for awhile, for how long she wasn't too sure. Breaking the silence finally, Saf asked, "What do you think is going to happen to Alpha now?" She stared at Saf, wondering herself, but she had no idea. "Who knows, but we cannot stay as three, so we'll likely be gaining a new member," Paige replied. "And whoever that person is, he or she had damn well know what they are doing." "No kidding, we don't need any half-ass person." Jordy replied, not stating what was on all their minds: who could really replace Baz and what he brought to Alpha? Jordan shifted in her chair, tired from sitting. "Well, I dunno about you gals, but I'm going to get cleaned up." She could feel the areas of her clothes where they stuck to her body because of the dried blood. "Okay," Paige replied, "catch up with ya later." Jordy grabbed her half drunk coffee and headed out of the room, upstairs to the locker room. When she entered she was immediately hit with the warm moist air, scented slightly with pine sol. She grabbed a clean towel off the stack near the door and headed towards her locker. She put her towel on the bench beside the locker and opened the door. Before throwing her clothes into her locker, she took a gulp of her of her now lukewarm coffee. After she put the cup on the locker shelf, she shut the door, grabbed her towel and headed for the shower. Approximately 30 minutes later she emerged from the locker room and spotted Joshua walking down the hallway. She turned to go back into the locker room, but he had already spotted her. "Hello Jordan." "Joshua," she replied. "I'm sorry about Baz." She just stared at him. He was sorry? How could he be sorry? He didn't care about anything but himself. "How the hell can you be sorry?" she whispered. Joshua's face immediately hardened. "I'll overlook that remark considering what-" "Oh please," she interrupted him. "Don't pretend to know me, hell don't even try. You may have got to me once, but you'd better think more carefully before you decide to do it again. You can only threaten so much and after that, it's just words." "Don't go all haughty on me now. You know full well who funds this place. I can make your life a living hell if I choose to." "Oh well thanks for the words of wisdom Joshua. I'd better make sure to write that down so I don't forget. You don't have a pen I can borrow do you?" Jordy replied sarcastically, not fazed at all by his taunts. Joshua's eyes narrowed, "Now you listen to me, I can slap your ass back to Section faster then you can blink your eyes. And I know you don't want to go back there. So you had just better watch what you say." "Sure Joshua. I'd just like to see you explain that to Rebecca, considering we now short handed. Go screw yourself," she replied and walked away. Joshua could talk all he wanted. She had yet to see him carry out a threat and now seemed as good as time as any to see if he was true to his words or if he was all talk. She was fuming. She walked into the lounge and plopped down on the sofa besides Safara, who opened her eyes and smiled at her. "Hey," Saf greeted her. "How's it going?" she asked. Saf shrugged her shoulders. "Okay I guess." "Ya, tell me about it." A few moments later Paige walked in, followed by Joshua. Great, just what she needed, more quality time with Joshua. Return |
