Petrenko Dacha. Early morning Another light exploded as Jaime put yet another 7.62mm round through the small globe of glass. Seeing that Paige was safely out of any possible harm's way, he reloaded his rifle, stowing the empty magazine in his pack and clipping a fresh one into place. Taking aim once more he continued to burst the lights, sending at least part of the dacha grounds back into the darkness that previously inhabited it. Quickly scanning the grounds and finding no more targets, Jaime quickly slung his rifle over his shoulder and headed back to the egress point. "Alpha Six, going home." Staging Area. 0408 hours. All was quiet back at the staging area as Jaime leaned up against a tree, cleaning the various parts of his rifle. Going over every piece twice to make sure it was all clean of dirt and gunk, he carefully started to reassemble the gun. He was sliding the bolt back into place when he heard voices coming towards the van. Looking up he saw that it was Paige and Simon talking over the laptop that Simon had rested on his knees. He watched for a few minutes, he couldn't really hear what was being said but whatever it was, it didn't sound like it was something to throw a party over. He noticed some of the other team members were also grouping around the pair, so he slung his rifle back over his shoulder and sauntered over to see what was going on. Getting closer to the group, he could properly hear what was going on, but he had apparently come into the middle of a conversation. "He's here?" asked Simon, looking at Paige as he crouched in the back of the van. "Who's here?" Jaime piped up. If he was going to hear the conversation he may as well know who it was about. "We were on a mission in the city and I had a meet with an alleged CIA agent who's cover was the DJ at the club we were staking. Well...I just ran into him." "The CIA's here?" Jaime asked, confused. "No, he's definitely not CIA," Paige shook her head. "Then who is he?" Safara asked. Paige shrugged, "that's what I plan on finding out...who's that?" Paige asked spying a figure tied to a nearby tree. Safara and Jordy turned to look at him. "That was our bogey. We took him in," Saf said. "Go figure," Paige said looking around some more. "Where's Bella?" "She hasn't checked in," Jaime said. "Last transmission she was heading back here," Simon added. "They take her?" Paige asked. "I'd assume," Simon said. They stood for a moment as Paige watched the prisoner who watched them intently. Jaime noticed that the guy didn't seem scared or anything of the sort, he was calm. Well-trained most likely, not unlike themselves. Jaime helped the others get the prisoner tied up in the front of the van and then leaned against the side of the van as they hooked up a link to the big kahunas. Once the communication had ended, the team gathered round again to discuss the situation as it was. "So?" Safara asked. "So nothing. They didn't seem very impressed," Paige said, the look on her face and her body language clearly communicating that she was disappointed with this fact. "But you'll meet the DJ again?" Jordan asked. "I dunno. It's stupid to send us against them if we can avoid it," Paige said. "Not that they wouldn't get a fight...but they're certainly trained," Safara said. "I know. But they won't let Petrenko go," Paige said. "What I don't understand, is that if you've met this...DJ...before, and Gray sent you to meet him...doesn't that mean that Gray knows who this fellow is?" Jaime asked. They all looked to him. He got the distinct feeling he was asking silly questions. "Gray doesn't," Safara said, "I doubt that. But Wellington...he might know." "That's exactly what I was thinking," Paige said stretching. "So, what do we do now?" Jaime asked. Paige shrugged, "We wait." Jaime nodded and moved into the back of the van, finding a spot to get some rest while they awaited their next move. Staging area, 0730 hours "Come with me." The order came from Paige as she moved past Jaime, tapping him on the chest. "And bring your rifle." Jaime nodded to her retreating back and picked up his rifle and other gear. Moving past the other team members he jumped out of the back of the van and jogged over to Paige, who had headed out without waiting. She didn't seem too happy about the situation. "What's going on?" he asked flatly. "The person I'm meeting I'm supposed to meet alone, you know the old 'come alone' with the handshake deal." "Oh, yeah, but you understand their position, don't you?" "To a point. Safety, yeah definitely bring someone, but not something like this. You saw them Jaime, how they set those traps, it's not some fly by night organization, they're trained. It'd be a bloodbath if we went at it straight on. And Gray and Wellingtonit's like they didn't get it. It was like 'Petrenko at all costs'likethey didn't give a shit about usor Bellalikeit was" "Section?" Jaime offered. Paige winced but said nothing. "Listen, Paige," Jaime said quietly, "you don't know this guy. You don't know who pulls his strings or who he has to follow orders from" he put his hand on her shoulder stopping her and forcing her to face him. "Word given or not, it's better you're not alone." "He won't touch me," she said. "I know that," Jaime said. "He won't get a chance to even breathe wrong while I'm watching." And he meant it. Not only was it his job to make sure she came back unscathed, it was in his own personal interest that she not be harmed. And he vowed to make it so. "I know," she breathed out finally then turned and began walking again. "It's a small clearing about half mile straight east of here." "Alright, I'll keep you in my sights," he said seriously. "I'm going to give him my weapons" "You're what?!" he grabbed her arm. He turned her round to face him. "Are you crazy?" "I have to give him something. He'll know I'm not alonehe'll read that off me like I'm wearing a sign 'sniper over here'. I have to offer something in return for not coming alone. This meeting has to happen. I don't want us and them going at it." Jaime snorted looking out over the wooded landscape. "Besides," she said softly, "you'll be watching just in case." Jaime just arched his eyebrow at her. "Ok?" He clenched his jaw but nodded his agreement. "Ok, and don't shoot him." "That's up to him," Jaime scoffed. "Be careful," he added before turning away. Making his way through the trees, Jaime found the clearing where the meeting was supposed to take place. He scouted around the area, finding the best vantage points from which to view the proceedings and to protect Paige. Finding a large tree, he climbed it and settled into its heavy branches, waiting for the meeting that would be taking place in a short while. Return |
