| She sat in her secret place deep in the castle and her eyes gazed into the pool. The outside world awaited her... yet something held her back. The door to her place was locked and barred by the people she'd loved and cared for. When they had hurt her she ran to this pool and watched from within till one day the door had closed behind her. It hadn't mattered then because she hadn't wanted to leave. She hadn't wanted to be hurt again. A knocking came to wake the girl from her daydreams and she jumped. Going to the door, but there was no knock there, no thumping of knuckles against this hard and damp wood. The sound came from all around her... "Where are you?" she asked and there came no answer. "Help me to let you in!" she shouted and there came a soft reply. "You must find the way without or I shan't be within." "Where are you?" she asked and there came no answer. And with that she clawed and threw down the walls till she found a back way out. The door was small and upon hands and knees she crawled through the tunnel twords the end. The daylight caressed her cheeks and hair and her eyelids squinted shut. A warm hand took her cheek and cupped it and that voice came to her ears. "Here I am, m'love, and here I shall always be." Her face was dirty and pale, her hair brittle, dirty, and full of knots. He bathed her, dressed her in silk, combed her hair all while kissing her soft cheeks and looking into her eyes. "You are my love" he told her, "and you shall be mine untill the end of time". |
