| Darmstadt is situated in central Germany near the city of Frankfurt. Infact its connected with Frankfurt by a metro line (S-bahn) making it almost a suburb of Frankfurt. I visited Darmstadt in the September of 2004 for a period of about two months. It was a terrific experience. I had gone there to work for T-Mobile. There were no other indian colleagues and for the first time in my life, I was all alone in this world! The only representative of the Indian culture in the midst of a group comprising of Germans, Americans, an Italian and a New Zealander.A truly global experience. I had the chance to make a dear German friend, Manfred, and I owe Dan Brown for that. I was sitting in the bus one day when I noticed the person next to me reading "The Da Vinci Code". Having read and thoroughly enjoyed that book before, I could not help remarking aloud that it was a very nice book indeed. From there on we started chatting and one thing led to another and before I knew it, I had a lovely German friend(and his girlfriend and other friends) to hang out with. I had such a lovely time with them exploring the beautiful German countryside. And I can never forget the pub hopping we did on my last night in Darmstadt. Manfred is studying to become a doctor. Part time he works as a paramedic. |
