"Joanie took me and Jane and Linda to Abbott Park on the campus of the University of Maine at Farmington. I got to skate on Rollo Pond and then we explored the park a bit. Abbott Park is named after Jacob Abbott, a famous writer of children's books who lived here. And Rollo Pond is named after the little boy in many of his books. He also wrote books about a little girl, Lucy.  Here are photos of our time at Abbott park.(We would have spent more time at the park, but Joanie said nature was calling her in a major way. I listened closely but I could only hear the sound of passing cars.)"

(If you would like to read more about Jacob Abbott, click here.  The biography says that he is responsible for the first fictional series of books for children.)
"Don't worry, Carol, and other Betsy fans. I only look like I could be in danger of falling. Aunt Joanie made sure I was VERY secure before she left to take the photo."
"This one is not at Abbott Park...it is Meetinghouse Park, also in Farmington. Joanie put me in a horse watering trough! (At least that is what she THINKS it is!)"
