Prakriti bhumir apo 'nalo vayuh kham mano buddhir eva ca ahankara itiyam me bhinna prakrtir astadha. -Gita 7.4 Earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego--all together these eight comprise My separated material energies. apareyam itas tv anyam prakrtim viddhi me param jiva-bhutam maha-baho yayedam dharyate jagat -Gita 7.5 Besides this inferior nature, O mighty-armed Arjuna, there is a superior energy of Mine, which are all living entities who are struggling with material nature and are sustaining the universe. sattvam rajas tama iti gunah prakrti-sambhavah nibadhnanti maha-baho dehe dehinam avyayam -Gita 14.5 Material nature consists of the three modes--goodness, passion and ignorance. When the living entity comes in contact with nature, he becomes conditioned by these modes. mayadhyaksena prakrtih suyate sa-caracaram hetunanena kaunteya jagad viparivartate -Gita 9.10 This material nature is working under My direction, O son of Kunti, and it is producing all moving and unmoving beings. By its rule this manifestation is created and annihilated again and again. karya-karana-kartrtve hetuh prakrtir ucyate purusah sukha-duhkhanam bhoktrtve hetur ucyate -Gita 13.21   Nature is said to be the cause of all material activities and effects, whereas the living entity is the cause of the various sufferings and enjoyments in this world. na mam karmani limpanti  na me karma-phale sprha iti mam yo 'bhijanati  karmabhir na sa badhyate -Gita 4.14 There is no work that affects Me; nor do I aspire for the fruits of action. One who understands this truth about Me also does not become entangled in the fruitive reactions of work. ==   Jai Sri Krishna.
