Mercedes Benz W201 Interior Facts

Although a W201 is nice on the outside, it is the inside most owners see the most of (Except for the star on the hood of course). As any other Mercedes, it also came in many varietys on the inside. MB-tex (Leather look-alike?), leather, veloure and cloth were the fabrics-choices, and these could be chosen in many different colors. The dashboard was also available in two colors, black and blue.

The interior in the 16-valved models was later available for all models in the Sportline Package. It was sporty, yet classy and only had room for four.

Console
In the two pictures below one can see the difference between the regular console and the "Taxi-console". This console was originally developed because the old one didn't have room for the taxi-metre. Some businessmen called it an upgraded version and so on it became standard in the US from 1986. In Europe this became standard in 1991.

The 16-valved models had consoles going all the way down during the entire production time. Their consoles where slightly different shaped and housed some gauges.

On the "Taxi-console" you can also see the wood-kit that was available from 1989. You can also see that the dashboard is blue.

Steering wheel
The steering wheels of course also changed, although I'm not quite certain on when. The new steering wheel had a more modern design, and was also smoother. Modern times caught up with the W201, and made it available with airbag.
