Home.
'Sup wiggas. School is now in full swing, and I have returned to my old habit of doing most all of my comic work during classes. There was recently a period of about two weeks where I didn't do any comic work at all (no real reason, just a 'break' of sorts), and that pretty much explains why there's no real update by Christmas as previously expected. No matter.. progress on SDL #6 is smooth sailin' and Zig is sort of picking up.. however my work on it is going considerably slower than Steve work, as Zig is a harder comic to make. Due to the content being the type of thin I've never dealt with before, I've found myself running into lots of walls (artwork-wise) because there seems to always be something new I have to draw for the first time. Plot-wise the whole deal has been outlined since maybe July, so there are no real issues there. ('cept that there are tons of holes in the story and convenient plot devices, but I did that consciously) Funny, Zig was originally concieved to be something I'd work on and just do what I felt like at the time, but now (after 6 months or so) it's pretty much the opposite. Oh well, all that notwithstanding I will inevitably finish it up sometime in the near future, as it is almost done. Steve progress is same as ever, #6 will probably be up fairly soon. Until next time..

A month later, and I'm a mere 5-or-so pages farther in Zig Finley. After 4-5 months of working on it exclusively, I recently finally caved in and began work on Steve #5. So yeah, forget all that "maybe" jazz, as it would seem that Steve will probably be an ongoing series as opposed to just the 4 issues. I think issue #5 is at a high enough quality to tell me that I can still work with those characters and that story, so I'll just keep making Steve when I feel like it.. forever.

So naturally, working on
Steve again has slowed down Zig production to the point where you may be reading Steve #5 considerably sooner than Zig. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Neither, really.

I've always laughed at the concept of a
Steve/Zig crossover. I suppose those of you who I don't know personally really have no idea, but Steve and Zig Finley would simply not work in a crossover setting. The whole "separate universes" thing notwithstanding, they simply would not make for interesting interaction. With this in mind, the other day I decided to tackle the "crossover" idea with a 5-or-so page randomfest that has our two heroes completely out of context and character. It's really worth nothing but a laugh, and only a few select people would understand some of the humor. So with this in mind, I will be posting the comic, but I'll probably shove it in some random corner rather than putting it up with my other work. Keep an eye out for it at the same time I put up Zig.. somewhere.

We're still looking at a "
maybe by Christmas" finish date on Zig Finley vs. The Universe, and Steve' Damn Life #5 will morethanlikely be up sometime before then. Ciao! (tumbles over car gracefully)

Production on Zig Finley vs. The Universe is long and slowly becoming tedious. I'm 30-or-so pages in what is sure to be an at least 50-page monster, the longest comic project I've ever done by far. Generally my comics are just my own thinly-veiled way to vent frustrations about my daily life/problems and make something of it, but ZF is slowly morphing into something larger. There are bits and pieces like that, but the largeness of the story is making it hard to stick in references to my own life, and my "storytelling" skills are getting a bit of a workout. I've outlined the story a few times and with such a set plot to go by, my completion of it is now more of a 'motivation to complete the work' thing than the usual 'scribble someting together based on a single idea or concept and see what happens' thing.

My progress is also being slowed by the whole 'school' thing. I either a couple pages pencilled or a couple pages inked per day during the summer, but now that process has gone into slow-motion. A page or two per week? If I'm lucky. The fact that stuff is happening makes it tough to really sit down and work on it.

Of course, I've yet to mention the story of the comic itself and well, I won't until it's posted. I don't even have any art for it scanned yet. But, here's a scribble I made on my computer that remotely resembles Zig..

Yeah, that tells you nothing. And it's ungodly scribbly. It does, however, give you a (very) basic idea of what this "epic" story's main character looks like. As for what kind of story to expect, it's not wholly serious but certainly not wholly funny. Basically the many random and strange things that take place because our protagonist thinks too much.

When will it be done? Hell if I know. Maybe maybe maybe by Christmas. Maybe. Until then, I guess I'll just keep updating this..
