Clothing

 

 

 

Women and Girls usually wear six items of clothing:

1.Comb- worn on the back of the crown of the head.

2. Bead Necklace- make with openwork beadwork, like a small bib

3. Traditional Choctaw dress- full sleeves, fitted top, and long skirt

4. White apron over the dress

5. Long ribbons of various colors hanging from the back of the neck to the hem of the skirt

6. Moccasins or shoes

 

 

Men and boys traditionally wear eight clothing items:

  1. Black felt hat
  2. Shirt- collarless and buttons at the back of the neck
  3. Silk scarf or openwork necklace
  4. Beaded cloth shoulder belt
  5. Beaded belt worn over ordinary leather belt
  6. Long ribbons fastened to the belt which hang to the ground
  7. Trousers- usually black or white
  8. Shoes or moccasins
