Scouting Report
Colt Brennan
63 196 lbs.
24 years old

Arm strength: Can throw the ball with zip into small windows. Above average strength on deep throws. Doesnt have a gun. Deep ball sails on him a little.

Accuracy: Is a precision passer. Uncanny accuracy on short and medium range passes. Throws with touch. Usually puts it on the proper shoulder of receiver.  When he is in a rhythm, is almost untouchable.

Delivery/Release: Funky delivery, with almost a pitching style side armed throwing motion. Doesnt set his feet for all throws. Doesnt always step in to passes either. Pats the ball sometimes before a throw; a habit he must get rid of. Quick setup. Ball seems to explode out of his hand. Will need to learn to take snaps from under center. Bounces in the pocket sometimes.

Field Vision: With usually four to five receivers going out on every pass play, Brennan seems to know where everyone is going and what they are doing. Goes through his progressions nicely and makes the right reads. Knows his hot reads.

Mobility: Is by no mean a burner, but he is a good athlete. Can move with the ball on the run effectively. Gets a few designed runs in college. Very good movement in the pocket; can slide with ease. Gets his feet set back under him quickly.

Pocket presence: Amazing. Can feel the pocket collapsing at almost all times. Shows no fear in the pocket. Could be his best trait as a quarterback. Hard to take down for sack.; slippery.

Intangibles: Is a proven leader after overcoming adversity early on in his college career. Seems ready to be the face of a franchise; embraces the role. Seems like he is one of the boys, despite being a star quarterback and Heisman candidate. Has mastered June Jones offensive system.

Bottom Line: Has a slight build, funky release, and plays in a spread shotgun offense in college. When you look past those flaws, it is easy to see Brennan is a natural leader with amazing accuracy and poise to go along with his solid arm. He can move like a jitterbug in the pocket, and can stick his passes into small windows. His skills are not suited for every system; he cant drive the ball down the field consistently. If he gets put into an offense similar to the one New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees is in, Brennan can thrive. Accuracy, zip, poise, vision, timing, and leadership skills are Colts strong points.
