Shun is the Andromeda Saint, his parents died when he was very young, and he only has his older brother Ikki (Phoenix Bronze Saint). 

After the two are taken to the Kido foundation, Shun's destiny is to head for Death Queen's Island, which is supposed to be a living Hell. Ikki chooses to go there instead of his brother, and Shun is sent to Andromeda's Island where he trains alongside various comrades, including a young girl named June who becomes Shun's friend shortly after his arrival at the Island (later, she becomes Chameleon Bronze Saint);His teacher is the Cepheus Silver Saint, Alviore. 

He gains the sacred Andromeda cloth after he completes the Andromeda sacrifice ritual, which consists of being chained of Andromeda's chain to a rock on the ocean and staying there until the water level reaches its peak and being able to survive it without drowning. 

After returning to Japan, Shun starts with his duty as a Athena Saint protecting Saori (altough at the beginning anyone knew this was their duty XD), and many things go on, at fighting several enemies, Shun increases his power more and more. Eventough he doesn't like to hurt or fight he always ends up doing it ^^.
