Akai was found abandoned as a baby on the steps of the Church of Martel in Coruscant. The unusual color of his eyes and hair lead many to question whether he was indeed truly human, and the priests of the Church regarded him as a sign from God. He was revered by some, but hated and feared by many, and thus he grew up with but a few friends. As he grew, Akai began to become obsessed with angels, and even went so far as to have a holographic Angel Wing generator implanted in his back to create the illusion of wings. This was an extremely painful process and left him with an enormous scar covering his entire back, but he did not regret his decision.
After many years of living with the priests there was a infamous group of space pirates who landed in the vicinity of the Church. Before the military could be dispatched to deal with them, they had ransacked the Church and killed the priests inside. Only Akai and the head priests daughter Alice were left alive as the pirates entered the final room of the Church. Seeing his adoptive family killed drove Akai into a rage. He grabbed a decorative saber from the wall and slaughtered the pirates. The military forces arrived to find him bathed in the pirates blood trembling with the priests daughter crying beside him.
After news of Akais slaying the pirates reached the authorities, he was proclaimed a hero. Despite his young age, he was offered a position in the local police force. Akai declined, for the way his rage had controlled him had deeply frightened him. He instead accepted a scholarship to a prestigious law school and studied fervently. After graduating, after the public had already forgotten of his butchering of the pirates, he was given a position in the galactic senate, where he promised to work for the good of all who lived under the senates rule. His charisma made him poplar with the people and he became quite wealthy. He bought a small mansion in Coruscant and lived there peacefully for a few years.
The late priests daughter Alice became his secretary and most trusted assistant, and secretly his bodyguard, as well. He also enlisted the services of a Kel Dor Jedi Knight in training named Tachibanamaru. The two deeply respected him and never left his side. Akai, through a series of events, met an eccentric Duro named Hohoemu, and, despite the differences of their lifestyles, came to call him a friend. Through Hohoemu he was introduced to the Order of the Nephal, headed by the mysterious Lord Barac. Intrigued by their unique philosophy, Akai decided to join their order. Though he did not always agree with their decisions, he could tell that what they truly sought was justice for the galaxy, his dream as well.
Akai thus cooperates with the Nephal to this day. Though his memories haunt him, he has vowed not to sacrifice the future for memories of the past. The Nephal, he believes are a ends to creating a galaxy at peace. Not an unjust, superficial peace, but a true peace seldom experienced in the history of the galaxy. A naive and idealistic dream, perhaps, but one that Akai will continue to strive after wholeheartedly for years to come.
