One Last Cry
By Caty
Sheridan looked at her reflection in the mirror. She was pale. She was saddened and tired. The lack of color proved that she was emotionally drained. Sheridan Crane was defeated. She now grew weary of her life, and all the hurt she has to go through each day. She was broken. And she could never be pieced back again…not without…Luis. She had counted. He had refused to talk to her, even to look at her, for the last 5 months and 8 days. What can she say, she couldn’t really blame him. Who would? It was all her fault. Her own damn fault. She brought this on to herself, and there was no one else to blame but HERSELF. She couldn’t blame Antonio either.
*FLASHBACK*
Sheridan rolled to her side and draped her arms around Luis. She felt his the warmth his body was giving off, but something didn’t feel right. She forced herself to open her eyes, despite the massive rays of sunlight that were invading the shady room. When she finally lifted her head to see, the shock of her life came up to greet her. It wasn’t Luis she was lying in bed with…it was Antonio…his brother. Before she could even scream, someone entered her room, someone had opened her door. “Sheridan, baby are you awake? I just wanted to say…” Luis stopped dead in his tracks. It was Sheridan…with his brother… in bed together. He ran his fingers through his hair in disbelief. Sheridan looked as if she could choke, clutching the sheet up to her chest as if it were a life support, her knuckles had turned white. Now Antonio was starting to stir. He woke up, surprised to see Sheridan at his side. “Sheridan! What---” Then he saw Luis at the door, looking as if he just got hit in the stomach with a bowling ball. “Oh my gosh, Luis—”, he started. Sheridan attempted to mutter out the same thing. “No, no! Both of you save it!” Luis threw the bouquet of red roses on the ground next to the bed and ran out of the room, not wanting to look back or turn back. That was the day that Sheridan lost Luis. It was the point of no return.
*END FALSHBACK*
Now here she was. All alone. All because if one mistake. A mistake she didn’t even know how she made. She had no idea how things turned out the way they did. How could she have had sex with her fiancé’s brother? The last thing she remembered was arguing with Luis, and she was so angry. So she went to the club, and she had a few drinks. But not enough to have gotten her drunk and in bed with Antonio. She didn’t even see him at the club. All she remembered was sitting at the bar, feeling miserable, and having some beer. Then Beth came along, and they talked for a while over a margarita. But that was it. Sheridan sighed. How can so much go wrong to ruin her life in a time period of one day?
*FLASHBACK*
Sheridan wanted to vomit. She wanted to scream and cry. She wanted Luis to understand. ‘How could this have happened’, she keeps asking her self. But so far, no answers. The look on Luis’ face when he walked in was enough to shatter her. She wanted to tell him that this was all a mistake, but he had walked out. He didn’t turn around, and Sheridan sobbed. She threw her face in her hands and sobbed for all its worth. Antonio put his arm around her to comfort her, but she yanked away, not wanting him to touch her. “I’m so sorry Sheridan, I don’t know how this could’ve happened! I honestly don’t know how we ended up on bed together.” “Neither do I,” she said between sobs. “The last thing I remembered was having coffee with Beth.” “Antonio, it doesn’t matter now! Don’t you see? Luis will never understand, and he’ll never forgive me! Or you!” She pulled the sheet around her and ran off to the bathroom, where she continued to weep.
*END FLASHBACK*
Sheridan heaved out one big sigh and sank back into her bed. She gritted her teeth, and closed her eyes to stop the tears that threatened to fall. They fell anyway. How can she go on without him? How? She buried her face in her hand. Sheridan turned to pick up a picture frame. She looked so happy then. That’s because Luis was by her side. Sheridan smiled a tiny smile as she looked at the happy couple in the picture…
*FLASHBACK*
IT was a nice, crisp autumn day and Sheridan was helping Luis and his family rake the fallen leaves. They has just piled up this incredible mound of leaves, and Sheridan was busy gathering up more when Luis popped out from behind a tree and threw her down to the ground. Sheridan squealed in surprise and delight. She fell back into the crunchy pile of leaves as Luis tumbled on top of her, laughing and kissing her. Theresa thought the sight was so cute, she ran in to get the camera. Luis was behind Sheridan with his arms wrapped around her, as Theresa snapped the picture.
*END FLASHBACK*
She held the picture frame up to her chest as drops of new tears slipped down her cheeks. Sadly, Sheridan placed the frame back on her nightstand. IT was all she had left of Luis…memories. Images of that fateful night still haunts her, and hurting her more. But what really kills her is the fact that she had hurt Luis. She knew he was torn. She saw it in his eyes every time she looked at him.
*FLASHBACK*
Sheridan had gathered enough nerves to face Luis. She was at his front door, ready to ring the doorbell. DING DONG. A sad, weary face greeted her. Sheridan almost collapsed in pain. She wanted to reach out and touch Luis, to make all his hurt go away. But he pushed her aside, and said, “Forget it Sheridan, I don’t want to hear it. I don’t have time to stand here and listen to you.” Sheridan choked back a sob in the iciness of his tone. “Luis!” she cried. “Please, listen to me, I can explain!” Luis turned around, the bitter look never leaving his face. “Sheridan, I don’t need an explanation. IT was pretty obvious what you and my brother were doing that night, okay?” “No, Luis, I don’t know how I got there! I really don’t! You have to believe me!” Luis shook his head. “Three guesses Sheridan…I bet you were stoned, right?” Sheridan paused, not knowing how to respond. “Oh my god,” Luis said, walking away. Sheridan grabbed him by the arms and he yanked it back. “Luis! We were fighting! I was upset! But believe me, I wasn’t drunk enough to get in bed with your brother!” “So I guess you got in there willingly?” “No! How can you say that Luis? You know I love you! Only you!” “So you go screw my brother after just one little argument with me?!” Sheridan shook her head, not able to believe those horrible things Luis were saying. “I feel like I don’t even know you anymore Sheridan. How can you do something so disgusting?” “Luis, I feel as though I don’t know who YOU are anymore! Why can’t you believe me? And how can you stand there and accuse me of all these horrible things?” “So you want me to just brush aside what I saw that morning? You want me to just take you back again after I saw your arms draped around my brother, while the two were in your bed together? If that’s what you think, then you really don’t know who I am! No Sheridan, it’s over. Everything is over between us.” And Luis walked out of her life.
*END FLASHBACK*
Sheridan fell back and cried into her pillow. She can’t do this everyday. She just can’t. Sheridan sobbed and sobbed for all its worth until she felt a hand on her back. She looked up to see a caring pair of eyes. “Pilar,” she said meekly, and fell back into her arms. “Oh mija, why do you do this to yourself?” Pilar sat there with the helpless girl in her arms, stroking her shoulder length hair that resembled spun gold. Sheridan pulled back and wiped the tears from her eyes. “Why do you still care about me Pilar? You should hate me. I ripped your two sons apart, and now your family will never be the same. You should hate me.” Pilar held her close again. “Oh Sheridan, I will never hate you. Because I love you. You are like a daughter to me. And because I will not believe that you are capable of doing the things that Luis accuse you of. You would never do that, drunk or not. I suspect foul play Sheridan.” “No Pilar, there is no foul play. IT was my entire fault. Nobody would want to break up Luis and me. I probably was drunk. God! I am so stupid!” A whole new set of tears fell. Pilar touched her hand. “Sheridan, sweetie, I’m worried about you.” “No, I’ll be okay,” she said as she sniffled, trying t wipe her eyes. “ Don’t’ worry about me. How’s Luis?” Pilar sighed. “Luis, he’s angry Sheridan, so angry. He goes through days without saying a word to anyone.” Instantly, Pilar regretted saying those words when she saw the look of pain that shot through Sheridan’s face. “I’m sorry mija.” “No, Pilar, you did nothing wrong. It’s me. All my fault. God, I put Luis through hell.” “Luis will be okay. But you Sheridan, you are starting to scare me. You haven’t left your room in the last 4 months. And you’re eating less and less everyday. Please mija, promise me that you’ll leave to go out for a walk or go out with some friends.” Sheridan smiled sadly at Pilar. “Okay Pilar. I will.” Pilar kissed her head. “Good. Now eat Sheridan. I bough you some of my famous arroz con pollo.” Sheridan didn’t say anything for a long time. “Sheridan? What’s the matter?” Sheridan slowly looked up at Pilar. “I—I want you to give this to Luis. I don’t think it belongs to me anymore. I have no right to keep it.” Sheridan slowly took the engagement ring off her slim fingers and handed it to Pilar. “No—no, Sheridan!” Pilar pushed the ring back to Sheridan. “This is yours. I don’t care what anybody says. This is yours, it belongs to you.” “NO, Pilar, you and I both know very well that it won’t be fair to whoever Luis will marry. I can’t keep it.” “Yes you can. Luis’ abuela gave it to him, and you know what she told him the day she gave it to him?” Sheridan didn’t answer so Pilar went on. “She told him that this ring is to be given to a special lady who will capture his heart and keep it for all eternity. She wanted him to give it to his soulmate, the person he will always love. I don’t think he’ll love anybody as much as he loves you. And I think that it IS fair that you be the person to keep it.” Sheridan shook her head sadly. “I hate myself Pilar, I hate myself.” “No, Sheridan, no. Don’t you say that.” Pilar held her close, trying her best to comfort Sheridan.

~AT THE STATION~
“Hey Luis, I’m going to the Book Café, you want anything?” Sam asked. Luis stared blankly at his work, and shook his head. “No.” Sam sighed and walked out the door. Poor Luis. Luis rubbed his eyes and looked up. It seems as though he was all alone. Everyone was on lunch break or on duty on a stakeout. The station was empty. He opened his drawer and looked at a picture of Sheridan. She was so beautiful. He wanted so much to hold her again, to tell her that he loved her. But that’s not possible. He hadn’t talked to her in 5months and 8 days. He had counted. He was too hurt to even look at her. His pride was hurt too. She had slept with his brother, and there’s no way that he could get past that. No way. Luis angrily slammed his drawer shut as angry images of that day haunts him. Luis covered his face with his hands, as frustrated as that first day. Just then the door opened. “Hey Luis, how are you holding up?” “Hey Beth. I’m fine.” Beth sat down next to Luis and studied him. He looks sad and crushed. She hated to see him this way. “I’m going to hate her for life for doing this to you Luis.” “Don’t bother Beth. I hate myself. I hate myself for falling so deep. I hate myself for letting her steal my heart so easily. She’s a damn Crane after all.”
Luis didn’t want to say these things about Sheridan, but he was so angry, the words won’t stay put. Once again, Beth looked at Luis. He lost that spark in his eyes. The only thing left was a mask of bitterness. She hated seeing this side of him. She hated to see him upset. But she loved him. It was the only way. Beth didn’t have a choice. It doesn’t matter because she knew she could make Luis much happier than Sheridan ever could. Luis will get over Sheridan. He would never find out what she did. And she will win his heart, and they’ll live happily ever after… “She’s a whore Luis, forget about her. Why don’t we go out to dinner tonight to clear your head of those horrible thoughts?” “Uh, thanks Beth, but I think I’ll take a raincheck on that. I just want to be alone for a while.” Beth frowned. Even when she made Sheridan look like a complete slut in front of Luis, she was still competition for Beth. Yes, it was her. She saw Sheridan at the club, feeling down, and she took advantage of that. She pretended to be friendly and caring. Then when Sheridan wasn’t looking, she dropped sleeping additives in her drink. Next thing you know, she was having to haul Sheridan out of that club and back to her Sheridan’s own cottage. Then she lured in Antonio for some coffee after the Book Café was closed, and adding the same sleeping drug in his coffee.
That’s when she dragged him back to Sheridan’s cottage to set up the scene of Sheridan and Antonio in bed together. Then the next day, she purposely convinced Luis to go over to Sheridan’s cottage to apologize for the misunderstanding he had with her last night. Yes, the plan was brilliant, foolproof almost. It was guaranteed to bring Luis back to her. But she didn’t plan on this to happen…he was STILL in love with Sheridan. Sheridan still had Luis under her spell even when she’s not around…damn her. “Okay, whatever you want Luis.” Beth faked a smile. “Well, I gotta get going, but whenever you feel like talking, I’ll be here.” “Thanks Beth,” Luis said, without looking up. Beth cringed as she huffed her way out the door. Right after the door closed on Beth, Luis heard it open again. “Hey Luis,” Sam said. “You want a doughnut?” “No thanks.” Luis was worrying Sam. He needed to go out more. It seems as though the incident with Sheridan and Antonio had knocked all the feeling out of Luis. He was cold now, and emotionless. But still, Sam saw the sadness that lies in his eyes. “Look buddy, why don’t you go for a walk. To clear your mind. I’ll get someone to cover for you. It’ll do you good.” Luis sighed and threw his hands up in defeat. “All right, fine, I’ll go. Thanks Sam.”

~AT SHERIDAN’S COTTAGE~
IT was moments after Pilar left and Sheridan was once again all alone. She sighed, once again hugging the picture of her and Luis close to her chest. “Please mija, promise me that you’ll leave to go out for a walk or go out with some friends.” Maybe Pilar was right. Maybe a nice walk would make her feel better. It as a beautiful sunny day, so why not? Sheridan got up to freshen up a bit before stepping out. A little mascara here, some lip-gloss there, and a little powder here. There. She looked somewhat decent. But not enough makeup in the world could hide her sorrow. It showed through her eyes. She was a little paler than normal and her eyes were red and puffy. Her hair fell loosely around her shoulders, slightly brushed. She looked sickly and sad. But this was good enough. She at least looked approachable. With that, Sheridan opened the door and stepped out, greeted by sunshine. It feels great out here, Sheridan concluded.
Although, everything around her feels a little bit foreign. ‘I suppose that’s what happens when stay in your room a whole 4 months’, she thought. The air was really nice, and the birds were singing, but somehow, she couldn’t help thinking of…him. Sheridan sighed and continued walking, soaking in the sights. Familiar people greeted her on the streets, although looking a bit worried for her. She saw Grace Bennett, offering to make her some tomato soup cake. Sheridan shuddered at that, but politely declined. Grace sympathetically nodded and gave Sheridan a hug before heading off. Then she saw Eve Russell on lunch break. Sheridan thought she must’ve really looked bad since Eve offered to check her out at the hospital. After saying goodbye, Sheridan kept on walking, feeling better with each step. But then she saw him. She saw Luis. Sheridan choked back a sob. All the pain started to come back to her, reality smacked her hard.
Now Luis saw her too, judging by that look on his face. Sheridan slowed down, hoping Luis would too, so they could talk. But he only took one glance at her…and walked on by. “Luis,” she cried. “Please don’t.” Luis kept walking, not looking back. IT was killing him to even have her around. He took one look at her, and it was enough to break his heart. She had withered away, but yet still was beautiful. But she looked so lost, so dejected now. She seemed fragile and hopeless. Luis couldn’t bear to look her in the eyes. “Luis, please.” She was walking faster to keep up with him. She grabbed his arm and stepped in front of him. “I’m sorry. For the thousandth time, I’m sorry.” He stared off to the side, still refusing to look her in the eyes. “Me too Sheridan, me too.” And he walked away…again. Sheridan almost fell to her knees, trying to blink back the tears.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Luis turned around to see Sheridan holding on to a nearby lamp post for dear life, eyes closed, heart broken. He wanted to run back and gather her up in his arms…but he won’t. He couldn’t. He swallowed that lump that formed at his throat and kept walking, this time, not looking back. Sheridan wiped her eyes and tried to pull herself together. She pushed back her hair and picked up her purse then started for home. Each step was getting more and more painful for her, her heart was weighing her down. She drifted back home, like a person without a soul, lost and alone. By the time Sheridan got back to her house, she had stopped crying. But now there was a dull pain in her heart. She opened the door to her house and numbly walked inside. She took one good look around, trying to remember everything here. She made up her mind already. She fell on her couch and cried for the millionth time that day. So this was hell on earth.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Luis angrily went back to his desk, slamming the door after him. “Luis? Is something wrong?” Sam thought a walk would do him good…obviously not. “Nothing”, was all Luis could say. He slumped back on his chair and ran his hand through his hair. But now something else had taken place of anger…Luis shivered. It was…dread. Something was nagging at him. His gut instincts were trying to tell him something again. And instantly he pulled open his desk drawer to look at Sheridan’s picture. Sam viewed this scene knowingly. So Luis still keeps a picture of Sheridan near him. He was still hung up on her. Luis was worried now. Had something happened to Sheridan? No, no, nothing could’ve happened to her in the past ten minutes. But why should he care? He shouldn’t care anymore. Luis closed his eyes. But why couldn’t he shake this terrible feeling?
Then Beth came in with a grin on her face. “Luis, I noticed you didn’t have lunch, so I ordered some take out for you.” “Thanks Beth, but I’m not hungry.” Beth’s smile quickly turned into a frown. “Okay”, she managed to squeak. She walked over to Luis’ desk, seeing how distraught he looked. “Luis? Whats wrong?” Then she looked down to see Sheridan looking up at her. Beth felt like some one punched her in the stomach. Why does he have a picture of her in his desk? After all the trouble that Beth went through to split them, Luis still can’t let Sheridan go. Luis sat up and frowned. “There’s something wrong with Sheridan, Sam, I know it.” Beth was furious now. She’ll never win his heart because that BITCH was in her way. He’ll never love her the way she wants to be loved, because Sheridan Crane still existed. She hated Sheridan. “NO LUIS!” Beth screamed, pushing Luis back. “SHERIDAN IS FINE! BUT I’M NOT! AND I’LL NEVER BE!” “Beth, what are you talking about?” Luis was a little bedazzled by Beth’s odd behavior.
“LUIS! DON’T YOU GET IT?! I DID EVERYTHING IN MY POWER TO WIN YOU BACK! BUT THAT LOUSY CRANE BITCH IS ALWAYS IN MY WAY! I’M THE ONE WHO REALLY LOVES YOU! I’M THE ONE WHO DESERVES YOU MORE! ITS NOT FAIR! I LOVED YOU FIRST! THEN SHE COMES ALONG AND YOU CAN’T EVEN TAKE YOUR EYES OFF OF HER FOR ONE DAMN SECOND! AND NOW YOU FIND OUT SHE BETRAYED YOU, AND YOU STILL CARE ABOUT HER! SHE’S A SLUT LUIS! I TRIED TO MAKE YOU SEE THAT, AND YOU MISS THE POINT! AFTER I TRIED SOOO HARD! I TRIED SOOO HARD!” Beth continued wailing. “Beth, what do you mean you tried so hard?” Things were more confusing now for Luis than ever. But he has a bad feeling about this. Beth was still weeping.
“LUIS, WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO GET YOU AWAY FROM HER? WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO GET YOU TO FORGET THAT BITCH?!?” Luis was getting impatient and angry. “Beth answer me, what did you do?” “YOU WANNA KNOW WHAT I DID? FINE! IT WAS ME! IT WAS ALL ME! I WAS THE ONE WHO DRUGGED SHERIDAN AND ANTONIO, AND I WAS THE ONE WHO SET UP THE WHOLE SCENE OF THEM IN BED TOGETHER SO YOU WOULD WALK IN ON THEM! YOU BELONG TO ME LUIS! NOT HER!” The room spun. Luis was angry enough to kill, mainly Beth, but another part of him was jumping with joy. Sheridan never did any of those things! She was true to him! She really did love him! But he accused her of such horrible things! He was such an asshole! She would never forgive him. Guilt starts to take in, then replaced again by anger.
He turned to Beth. “You know what Beth? I could NEVER in a million years love anyone like you! You are a nasty, rotten piece of work Beth Wallace! I would rather spend an eternity in hell then to spend one minute by your side! And you are right, I do love Sheridan, more than you could ever know! I dream of her, I think of her everyday of my life and every moment I’m not with her! So I don’t care what you try to do, I will always love her, and I will always HATE you.” Beth fell to the floor in a heap and cried all over again. Luis’ words cut like daggers. Luis ran out of there as fast as he could. He needed to get to Sheridan. He needed her love again. Sheridan walked to her room, almost in a paralyzed state. She walked into the bathroom and opened up the second drawer to pull out a small bottle then walked back to her bed.
Sheridan sighed as she looked at the bottle. Poison. Rat Poison. She had borrowed it from the kitchen in the main house a while back when she thought about claiming her life, mentioning that she had pesky rodent problems in her house when cook asked her what it was for. There’s no other way she thought, just no other way… Luis ran, not thinking about anything, forgetting his pride, hurt, and anger. He needed to get there, he needed to see that Sheridan was alright. He ran with everything that was in him. Sheridan looked at the tiny bottle that rested in the palms of her hand. This was the only way out. This way, she could leave it all behind. And it would be better for Luis this way too. He wouldn’t have to worry about seeing her, ever again. No one would care if she were gone anyway. She cried silently to herself as she reached for the picture on her nightstand and placed a kiss on it. She opened up the bottle and stared at it for a little while. “This is it Sheridan,” she muttered to herself. “The pain stops here.” She brought the flask up to her lips and took a long sip of the poison. Juliet…without her Romeo.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Luis reached the house to find to his surprise that the door was unlocked. He didn’t hesitate to bust inside, calling for Sheridan, sweat pouring down his face. He panicked when he didn’t see her right away. But then he charged into her bedroom… Sheridan gasped when Luis came thundering in. She dropped the bottle and it landed with a thump. Luis eyed the bottle, then Sheridan. “What’s going on here Sheridan? What is that?” Sheridan couldn’t speak. No, it wasn’t suppose to be this way, he’s not suppose to be here. “Nothing, Luis, please go,” she sobbed. The poison was taking effect and she was feeling a little lightheaded. Sheridan tried to turn away and make a run for her bathroom. But Luis rushed to her, catching her by the arm. She collapsed, blood trickling out the side of her mouth and down her chin.
“Sheridan!” Luis screamed. “Sheridan, what’s going on?” Sheridan couldn’t breathe, she couldn’t talk, her eyes were fluttering to the back of her head. “Sheridan! No! Don’t do this to me!” Luis couldn’t help crying. He carried her back to her bed and laid her down, while picking up his radio talkie. “Sam!” he screamed. “Sam, I need an ambulance down here quick! Something’s wrong with Sheridan! Please, hurry!” “Luis, calm down, I’ll get an ambulance down there as fast as possible. What’s going on?” “Sam, you just gotta hurry, please!” He looked at Sheridan, so small and helpless, and is heart broke into a million pieces. He went back to her and gathered her into his arms, her limp body was so light. “Sheridan, please tell me, what happened? Don’t worry, an ambulance is on its way, you’re going to be okay.” “I’m sorry Luis, so sorry. But I don’t expect you to forgive me,” she breathed, tears falling out of the corner of her eyes. He held her close. “No, please Sheridan, don’t so this,” he whispered.
“I’m a coward,” she choked out. Her breath was getting raspy and short. “Luis, please look at me.” Luis obeyed. He didn’t want to lose Sheridan, not like this. Sheridan brought her hand up and slid the engagement ring off her finger as Luis watched in horror. “Sheridan, what—what are you doing?” “This,” she breathed, “does not belong to me anymore. For the girl of your dream Luis, for that lucky girl that will forever hold your heart. For your soulmate.” She opened Luis’ hand and placed the ring inside. “NO!” Luis cried. “Sheridan, this is for you! You’re that special girl, don’t you understand?” Sheridan shook her head sadly. “No Luis,” she whispered. “She’s not me. It can’t be me.” More blood came flowing down the side of her mouth. “I’m tired Luis, so tired. Let me go. I just wanna go.” “Sheridan, I will never let you go! You hear me?! Never!” Luis just wanted Sheridan to be okay. He would die with out her. “Sheridan, please, don’t.” Sheridan looked at Luis, and she brought her hand up to lightly caress his face. “I love you Luis. So much.. Remember that okay?” “Sheridan, I love you too! I’m sorry for the way I’ve been acting! I’m sorry! It was all a mistake! Please Sheridan, I love you!”
The tears are freely falling out of his eyes. Sheridan smiled at his words, and the last tear escaped her eyes. ‘This is the last cry Sheridan, no more tears,’ she thought to herself. She grabbed on to Luis’ hand and a veil closed over her crystal ocean eyes, and she went limp in Luis’ arm. “No,” Luis whispered. “No, Sheridan, don’t do this to me.” Luis silently sobbed. “Sheridan, wake up, come on, please.” He held her close to him. Sheridan wasn’t going to wake up. She was gone forever. He looked at her, tears blurring his view, and he slipped the ring back on her finger. She was the one that held his heart. Forever. He hovered over her body, and held her tight, crying into her hair. Sam came with the paramedics only a while after. Sam almost choked at the scene but went over to Luis, patting him on the shoulder, then motioned for the medics to follow him out of the room. They all shook their head in grief for Luis.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
“It’s been so long Sheridan. And I’ve missed you everyday.” Luis looked at the floor and allowed a tear to fall to the dirt. “I still love you more and more each time I’m here. Everything still reminds me of you, ya know.” Luis sighed. He looked at the picture of her and ran his fingers over the letters engraved on the cold limestone. “Sheridan Crane, Heaven’s own angel, sent to earth. May she rest in peace,” he read aloud. He laid a single red rose next to her tombstone and closed his eyes. “You’re still the one Sheridan. You’re still that special girl for me. I love you.” He got up to leave, blowing her a kiss first. Then he walked away, knowing that he’ll be back tomorrow. Tomorrow makes the 6th year. But he’ll be here with only an aching heart and his undying love for Sheridan. Luis had lost more than a great love that day. He lost a part of himself, and he lost a part of his heart—the part that Sheridan held on to when she passed away. It was the part that was just for Sheridan to keep. She was his soulmate. Forever.
The End
