Chapter 1

A group of masked men armed with rifles and handguns made their way into the bank. “Everybody freeze!” Those two simple words caused everyone in the bank to go into a state of confusion, shock, and fear. A few people screamed but they were soon silenced by the sound of gunfire. On of the armed guards had been reaching for his gun but was shot quickly by one of the men. “Come on move! Move!” The armed men urged the bank clerks. One man who held a handgun looked at his watch and yelled, “Two minutes!” Suddenly a small flashing light caught his attention. Someone tripped the silent alarm. “Let’s go! Someone hit the si-“ he was cut off by the screeching of police sirens in the distance. “Damn” he muttered. The rest of the men finished collecting the money and started toward the door. The getaway car parked in front sped away and in the blink of an eye they were all gone.

In the car Juan Diaz was trying to catch his breath. One of the men turned to him, “Hey Diaz! When did you see the alarm?” “I caught it late. When I looked up from my watch it was already flashing.” He replied, still catching his breath. “Oh what I would give to shoot the bitch who tripped that alarm!” The man yelled. Inwardly Juan shuddered and thought of how he couldn’t have bared to see another person shot in cold blood. A voice shook him from his thoughts. “Well boys! It looks like we have about ten grand in our little hands!” A joyous holler rang around the car. Juan on the other hand was trying to calm his heart from the past events. The only thought ringing in his head was, ‘Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald what have you gotten yourself into? What would Mama, Theresa and Miguel think of you running around with a bunch of murderous thieves?’ Luis gave a sharp sigh, but quickly composed himself. He just smiled and pretended to be overjoyed with the sight of the stolen money.

Chapter 2

It had been four years since he left Harmony and almost two years since he started his undercover work for the New York Police Department. His job was to go undercover as a thief in order to become part of a notorious gang of robbers. Normally, they would’ve arrested these bastards but it leaked out that they might be part of a plan to kidnap a wealthy heir later in the year.

Alone in his room Luis, undercover as Juan Diaz, was getting ready for bed. His thoughts were jumbled up in a cloudy haze of loneliness. He looked around his small, dingy apartment. To avoid being found out as a cop he only had a few things. He kept even less things from his past life as Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald. The things he did keep were hidden in an old cigar box in the back of his closet. Luis feeling especially lonely tonight made his way to his closet and pulled out the box. It was filled with a few things including a picture of his family and Sheridan.

He missed his family so much. When he left everything was finally coming together for them. Earlier in the year Luis had found out that Martin was really dead and not missing. Pilar was devastated of course but told Luis that at least she could find closure knowing that Martin was resting in peace with God. Theresa was just beginning her life with Ethan Bennet. Just the thought of Ethan as a Bennet and not a Crane made Luis smile. Who knew? Ivy of course but it was a shock to everyone. During the whole ordeal Luis had really gotten to know Ethan and didn’t mind that he and Theresa harbored feelings for each other. Miguel on the other hand was still with Charity. Luis remembered how he used to tease his brother by asking when he would break up with Charity, Miguel would often get mad and say, ‘never’. Luis gave a thoughtful smile remembering their conversation. And Sheridan…. most of his thoughts were about her. He slowly put the picture back in the box and pulled out his wedding band. He sighed thinking of what might have been. After all it was only two months before he and Sheridan were to be wed that he disappeared.

After a few moments Luis replaced the ring back in the box and put the box away. He didn’t like thinking about how he let each of them done by leaving, but he had to. Luis remembered back to when he was first approached by Alistair Crane. He was surprised and scared at the same time. What Alistair said to him was simple: leave town, never comeback and no one will get hurt. Of course he refused but Alistair guaranteed that if he and Sheridan were to be married people would be hurt and consequences would be paid. Luis couldn’t bear to see anyone in his family hurt so he agreed to leave not wanting to take any chances. He left Harmony later that day and never looked back.

All of that seemed like ages ago to Luis. He sighed for what seemed like the millionth time that day. He often thought about Sheridan, how her life was, if she was happy, and so on. In the back of his mind he thought that there was still a chance for them to be together but in reality he knew better than to think of things that were impossible. A few months back he found out she had married a CEO by the name of John Bentley. The news came as a shock but didn’t really surprise him because he knew Sheridan would eventually move on. What did surprise him was that they had been married for more than three years! Luis was devastated and heartbroken; he and Sheridan had something special, yet she married some stranger only months after he left. His pain soon turned to anger and he wondered how she could easily forget about what they had. They were engaged for crying out loud! Luis however, managed to keep the whole thing in the back of his mind and thankful that he could bury himself in his undercover duties.

His thoughts soon shifted to the events that happened earlier that day. Although he had been part of the gang for almost a year it was the first time Luis was ever part of a major “hit”. It took Luis, or rather Juan, a long time to earn the entire gangs trust. Deck, the gang’s leader was surprisingly an easy believer. It was Deck who invited Luis to be a part of their gang. Since Deck was the leader everyone followed suit. But Luis had to be careful; despite Deck’s disarming personality he was a real monster at heart.

Suddenly, a knock interrupted Luis’ thoughts.
