Gregory Shteinas was born in 1951
in Saratov, Russia. He began his music studies at age 10 and was graduated from
Saratov’s Conservatory in 1976 as a cellist. While still being a student at the
Conservatory, he often performed with many chamber ensembles, with Saratov’s
Symphony Orchestra and as soloist.
Mr. Steinas has always been
fascinated with building string instruments. In 1981 he had began his first
experiments and in 1982 he built his first violin. His next violin was shown to
renowned violinist, Vladimir Spivakov, and it was well received. Many Russian
musicians, such as members of the Saratov Symphony Orchestra (including its
leader, Gennadiy Kuzmin), members of the Saratov Opera and Ballet Theatre, and
students of the Conservatory use instruments made by Mr. Shteinas.
After Gregory Shteinas moved to
Moscow, he built violins, violas and cellos for Moscow's experimental factory of
music instruments. In his private workshop he custom built instruments for
discerning clients.
In 1989 Mr. Shteinas was awarded
third prize in the Lutier's contest (the most prestigious contest for Russia’s
string instruments builders).
In 1990 Mr. Shteinas repatriated to
Israel where he continues to build high quality instruments, while also doing
repairs and restorations.
With more than 20 years of
experience, his continued goal is to design and build magnificent string
instruments with clear, strong, brilliant and beautiful sound. After extensive
research, numerous experiments and careful execution, Shtienas created a special
violin that emits exquisite sound with ease.
