Hello from Jessica (Sep 17, 2008)
Hello everyone,
ˇ@ˇ@I am Jessica Ching Siu Nga. I am pleased to share my recent racewalking competitions with you. I took part in two competitions in Malaysia and Singapore. I am very happy that I can get the championˇ¦s spot in both these competitions.
ˇ@ˇ@Before these competitions, I was training six times a week. It was not too hard for me, as I was training with my coach Bill and Fung Wang Tak. And also, there are many friends who were training with me. They supported and guided me a lot. Thank you for your help! However, my racewalking time in these two competitions wasn't very good.
ˇ@ˇ@In Malaysia I did not have enough warm up. The organization set a starting time for women is at 8:15am, but then suddenly asked us to start at 7:45am. So, I couldnˇ¦t move smoothly and I worried about I would get injured. The time was not very good as a result. But it was very interesting to observe that some kids didn't wear shoes to walk and they walked so well. I suggest that we should promote racewalking among young guys. After the competition, my friends and I went traveling. We went to the Twin Towers and Chinatown. We bought a lot of food such as noodles, white coffee and chocolate. All of these were free, as we had won prize money. However, it was difficult to carry so many things. We all agreed that we should bring a handbag next time.
ˇ@ˇ@In Singapore, the weather was too hot. It was very difficult for me to adapt to the hot temperature, so my time was slow. But it was a very challenging trip to go with five men and live by myself. I never lived by myself before, so I couldn't sleep well the first night. After day one, I didn't care about anything as I was too tired. It was good chance for me to live by myself. And it was a funny trip, since my team members were always joking and they looked after me. We also met many friends from Japan, Taipei, China, Singapore, Vietnam and Macau. After the competition, we went to visit the scenic spots such as the famous Merlion, Orchard Road and Chinatown. All of these were very impressive. However, the weather was too hot. We were unwilling to walk in the no air-conditioning places. Hence, we cancelled some of the visiting and went to a restaurant to have lunch. And then, we went to a famous bah kut teh restaurant to take a photo. Although we had no chance to eat bah kut teh at that moment, as it doesn't open on Monday, the photo can prove that we went there. After that, we went to our hotel and took our hand luggage to the airport. All in all, it was a valuable trip for me.
ˇ@ˇ@In addition, I would like to thank the sponsors in SHTB and the HKAAA. They gave me a chance to participate in these competitions. These two competitions really enriched my experience. And through the competition, I made many friends and broadened my horizon. I am confident that I will do my best and I hope I can obtain the qualification to represent Hong Kong in the 2009 East Asian Games.
