Springfield High School

2000 Cross Country Team
On Friday Oct. 27, Springfield traveled to Lehigh University to participate in the District I Cross Country Championships. In the boys race only 4 runners from Springfield competed. Pat Shea had not recovered well enough from a lower leg injury, so competition was not possible. But four Springfield harriers did tour the 3.1 mile course. In a field of both AAA and AAAA runners more than 350 athletes competed. Sean Donovan placed first for Springfield with a respectable 18:07, following were Bob Spence, Tim Tomasura, and Joe Fraatz.
In the girls division Springfield again had the same problem with only bringing 4 runners to the line. Katie Tomasura has not recovered well enough from a foot injury to give the course a try. But four other runners did give it their best effort. First for Springfield and placing 41st overall was Ann Marie Regan (Ann missed the trip to States by 6 places and 7 seconds). Ann was followed by Kate Curran 54th place, Kiera Burke 92 place, and freshman Laura Glace in the 103 spot.
Congratulations to all our runners on a fine season.
Good Luck to Central League Runners at States
