At Art Club, there are a variety of different things to participate in. At each of the regular meetings (held the second Wednesday of each month), there are projects such as window painting, miniature murals, cookie decorating, etc. We make projects from both the art side of art and the crafts side of art. Additionally, there are extra meetings for volunteering opportunities, such as teaching craft sessions at the elementary schools, or helping elderly people in nursing homes make decorations for the doors or rooms. There is also a possibility of going on trips to see openings at the local art museums or art festivals.
Okie, so we have to admit there is more to life than just Art Club! Dont worry if you cant attend EVERY meeting. While its great if you can, we know that there are sports, band, other clubs (shocking as it may be), or just plain being sick, which can keep you from meetings. You can still join Art Club!!! Were pretty flexible. We hear band is done with its Wednesday practices come November, and sports dont last the WHOLE year, so just come when you can. Were toying with the idea of printing up hand-outs at each meeting which will contain the most important information that youll miss. Just stop by and pick it up if youre going to miss! Additionally, there will be this website, which I will update with the latest and greatest ASAP!
ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!! I cannot believe the number of times students and parents have asked me that!!!! On a completely serious note, I would love it if someone would e-mail me and explain to me why so many people have this misconception about Art Club. There is NO talent and NO experience required to be in the club. You made your best project as a 4th grader? Havent painted since 5th grade? Barely remember the color wheel from 7th? IT DOES NOT MATTER!!!! Well still welcome you into Art Club!!! Its all about fun, hanging with your friends, developing a healthy appreciation for art, and helping others have positive experiences with art so they dont have to question their right to be in Art Club!
No!!! Again, there is no talent and no experience necessary to be in Art Club. Besides, as a very smart art student said to me a week ago, How much of artistic ability is really talent, and how much of it is really practice? Please come!!! Its very disturbing to us (Board members and Advisors) that some people are not coming because of this I have no talent mindset!!!
As weve tried to make clear, the Art Club is open to ALL students. If youre still NOT sure: this means freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, males, females, and students of any religion or race can participate.
Regular meetings are the second Wednesday of the month. Additional meetings for volunteering, trips, etc, will be announced at meetings, on signs in the Commons, the website, and via announcements in the mornings.
Dues are $5. They are used to fund the things we do in Art Club, such as for supplies.
This is definitely not a problem. You can speak to any of the Board members and Advisors about this in private, and well handle it. Dont prevent yourself from enjoying after school activities because this is your situation.
Absolutely not. Its cool if you do, but do not prevent yourself from joining just because, say, youre really shy and dont want to teach craft sessions. Not a problem. Theres other ways to be active in the club. Or, if youre open to trying new things, we can think of alternative solutions. In that situation, how about being one-on-one with a child?
Thats fantastic! Were totally open to suggestions. Just let one of the Board members in on your idea. (Its really great if you could jot it down on a piece of paper.)
