Report Well we made it and what a trip it was with its highs and lows and plenty of stories to tell. Tuesday 4th June saw us leave home with fellow Shroppies Trevor and Linda who was suffereing with a heavy cold and guess who caught it correct yours truly not the sort of thing you want when the temperature got up to 44c. A plesant run down to Portsmouth to board the Pride of Bilbao P&O ferry for two night abroad arriving at Bilbao about 8.0am Thursday 6th June to a rather damp and cold Spain. The weather improved as we did the 330 miles to Salou getting hoplessly lost aound Tarragona still Trevor had been there before!!
Having arrived in one piece we settled into our air conditioned bungalows air conditioning supplied by Big John Gratton from Staffordshire Wings who snores for England. An enjoyable three days at the treffen during which time we went on the Parade of Nations and various trips arranged by our Spanish friends
On Sunday 9th June we departed for the Costa Del Sol suffering from wind of the weather variety. It took us an hour and a half to cover 30 miles passing caravans and high sided lorries blown over on the motorway that runs the entire length of the coast. Eventually heading inland past Alicante conditions improved and we arrived tired and worn out at Puerto Lumbreras Parador Hotel 345 miles and some 7 hours later. By this time I was full of cold to add insult to injury.
On Monday 10th June we headed off for Fuengirola 232miles through the Sierra Nevada Moutains which despite the temperature climbing to mid 30C still had snow on them. Lots of open roads great bends and ideal to make up some time arriving at Las Farolas just after lunch. We were joined the following day by Big John and Big Vince for four days on the Costa.
.
On Saturday 15th June it was time to depart stopping at Chinchon Parador Hotel 330 miles travelling through an area known as the Devils Frying Pan 42 degrees C and boy was it hot. Hotel was great which made up for it and we got to see Heskey score Englands third goal over our lunch stop.
Sunday 16th June we travelled to Bilboa 289miles 30 of them going around Madrid the wrong way oh well everyone makes mistakes. We stopped at theIntatuxen Salkis Hotel for a bit of luxury before heading down to the port after breakfast for our trip home arriving back home at 9.30pm on Tuesday 18th June. Total distance 2200miles and a sore bum to prove it.
