Our house 3 Menendez Pelayo is located in the new part of Alhurin and is some 20 years old. Located on the main road out of town it is within waking distance to the shops, Restaurants and bars and makes it an ideal base to explore the Real Spain. With the Costas within easy reach, only 20min drive away for those who prefer the beaches.
Locally there are numerous shops where you can purchase the local fruit and vegetables in addition to an excellent fresh fish shop and butchers. A patisserie is located just across the road for those with a sweet tooth. A locally famous and well patronised fish restaurant is a mere 100 yards up the street.
For those who enjoy golf a 27 hole course through the almond groves is located 2 miles named Lauro after its Roman history, whilst a further three courses Alhurin, Mijas and La Cala are all within a 10 mile radius. A new course is under construction at neighbouring Coin ready in a couple of years time. Whilst not benefiting from a swimming pool there are several Fincas nearby that are open to the public and have excellent pools, where you can enjoy a local meal or tapas, a drink and a swim all for a few Euros. With a 10% English resident population this number is swelled by visitors during the high season most bars have English Speaking patrons. You do however get a little more for your money if you order in Spanish if only for the novelty value. Several good quality hotels are also located nearby where you can use their facilities.
For those wishing to venture inland further Granada is about an hour and a half away, as is Seville. The Torrox National Park and Lakes are 30 mins on a wing where you may spot a real Golden Eagle or climb the Stairway to heaven Road as it is called to Rhonda. Not for the faint hearted but a good road with some spectacular scenery on route to this old walled town with breathtaking bridge over the Gorge. It also has the oldest Bull Ring in Spain. Jerez is also a couple of hours away on good quality but quiet roads, home of the Spanish motorcycle Grand Prix and F1 it�s also famous for its horses and of course Sherry. |
