David G Bishop
-A Biography-
Homepage

Born in 1937 in the small town of Market
Drayton in the County of Shropshire, England, David found close companionship
with pencil and brush at a very early age. At the County Grammar
School he was awarded Art prize every year and was eventually accepted
at the Bath Academy of Art, Wiltshire, England. For some time prior
to emigrating with his family to Australia, he freelanced and sold his
work by way of commission and exhibition. Australia too found him
freelancing as well as tutoring in watercolour and line drawing.
It was however settling in Tasmania that encouraged this 'gifted' rather
than trained artist, to focus his attention on the beauty of the State
and depict it in his specialised artform of Sepia Monochrome. Along
with his landscape work came pet portraiture as well as the nostalgia of
Australia's bygone days- of plough horse, bullock team,of farmer, miner
and gold prospector-all in this unique form of traditional watercolour
with light and shade are revealed in the 'tonal' quality of his work sold
throughout Australia and overseas.
