Throughout this 10x10 genre run, my movies will share some commonalities:

  • I won't produce a script until it's written to 5 stars overall, ever ever EVER. I generally like using at least one Top 15 talent in each film, and producing 5* scripts allows me to negotiate a discount on an actor's standard asking price. Actresses are a different story - there's usually no wiggle room unless the particular Top 15 actress is cast in the top slot of leading roles. B*tches.

  • I don't give points to talent for big-budget projects. The one time I gave points by mistake (to Tarantino for an Action Flick), it cost me $70 million in profit - 3.5 times the amount I spent for salaries and perks on that film.

  • Unless a movie's storyline obviously sets it in a specific locale, I film in LA, with on-location interiors.

  • Set designs are usually Significant or Complex.

  • Any director I use is a five-star talent - and if the F/X budget is high, he/she rates five stars in the visionary department, too.

  • If a director rates five stars in the areas of talent, and four-five stars in command capability and on-budget/on-time, I'll let him/her produce the film, as well.

  • My minimum advertising budget for big-budget films releasing in 3,500 theatres is $15 million TV, $15 million print, $3 million radio. When I get into lower-budget genres like Drama, I'll add more commentary.

  • For releases between 2,000 and 3,000 theatres, my ad budgets follow this equation:

(# theatres / 200) x $1 million = TV advertising

(# theatres / 200) x $1 million = print advertising

(# theatres / 100) x $1 million = radio advertising

  • I don't usually bother with pumping more than the minimum amount of cash into Mogie advertising, since the winner is randomly selected. When I get into lower-budget genres, I may start spending more for pre-Mogie ads, to see if perhaps I earn more nomination slots...

  • UPDATE: One more thing - I always play as "New In Town". Maybe on my next 10x10 genre run, I'll play as a veteran studio.
