Best Variety Programme (TCS 8): Super Sunday
Best Actress (TCS 8): Honami Suzuki
The ultimate failure of the year... Should have been called The Suckiest Squad
A case of same character, different clothes?
And you thought only Hong Kong serials had some much betrayal, nudity and back-stabbing. Remember that the second series is starting on 29th Jan.
A Best Drama winner and Best Actress winner... Look out for this drama every Monday night!
Jimmy, Jimmy... Sigh... Just stick to modelling okay?
Just join the WWF... Spare us the agony of your yell and your over-the-head somersaults... |

TV Awards As we greet the new year and the new millennium, we decided to come out with awards for the programmes shown on local TV for the past year... And here they are:
The Best and Worst of TCS 8 Best Variety Programme Nominations: City Beat, Super Sunday, Travel Hunt, Masquerade Winner: Super Sunday (None of the above can contend with this top Taiwan programme though TCS was originally showing it on late Thursday nights)
Best Drama Nominations: My Fair Princess 2, Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils, Long Vacation, Secrets of the Heart Winner: Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils (The show might have been a 1997 production but was only shown in Singapore last year... It may not have made it into the Top Ten Drama List for 2000 but was one of the best shows around) Best Actor Nominations: Hideaki Takizawa (The Sun Never Sets), Chor Chew Meng (Hainan Kopitales), Kimura Takuya (Long Vacation), Bobby Au Yeung (Crimes of Passion). Winner: Bobby Au Yeung (Bobby is so multi-talented that he is convincing in whatever role he is playing, be it detective, lawyer, god [fortune god, actually] or a chef. I must say that he's one of the best actors around)
Best Actress Nominations: Ivy Lee (Angel's Dream), Kenix Kwok (Detective Investigation Files), Honami Suzuki (The Sun Never Sets), Fennie Yuen (A Measure of Love) Winner: Honami Suzuki (Her portrayal of a struggling lawyer was very touching. I must admit her present role of a mean news broadcaster in Anchor Woman improves my impression of her as a good actress)
Worst Variety Programme Nominations: Popcatz, TV Champion, Taiwan Best, Comedy Night Winner: Popcatz (I still don't know why there must be an alien in the show... Anyway, the 'so-called' acting in between the MTVs have actually the show. Why don't they just show the MTVs instead???)
Worst Drama Nominations: As You Like It, I Have A Date with Vampire 2, The Invincible Squad, Dare to Strike Winner: The Invincible Squad (Need I say more? The plot sucked, the acting sucked, the music sucked even the action scenes sucked... Maybe we should just give it the suckiest drama award instead... The vampire thingie came in a close second though... This should be the first non-suckiest vampire show around... Get it?)
Worst Actor Nominations: Xie Shaoguang (The Invincible Squad), Ix Shen (As you like it), Jimmy Lin (Lu Xiao Feng), Tay Ping Hui (My Home Affairs) Winner: Xie Shaoguang (I wonder why he agreed to that stupid/ non-existent script??? The poor guy was trying his best but I guessed the script just totally drowned this ex-local Best Actor)
Worst Actress Nominations: Norika Fujiwara (Anchor Woman), Phyllis Quek (The Invincible Squad), Fann Wong (The Legendary Swordsman), Yang Gong Ru (I Have A Date with Vampire 2) Winner: Fann Wong (I have said it once and I will say it again. Fann can't act! Give the Little Dragon Girl a makeover, let her hold a whip, learn to pluck some strings and you have Ren Ying Ying! The only thing is to remind her not to say "Guo-er" anywhere throughout the Legendary serial)
The Best and Worst of TCS 5 Best Comedy Nominations: That 70's Show, Dharma & Greg, Fraiser, Phua Chu Kang Winner: Dharma & Greg (The show's the best! However, the weakest character in the comedy seems to be Greg while everyone else seems to be so good! Maybe the show should be called Dharma & husband instead)
Best Variety Programme Nominations: Cinema, Cinema, Cinema, Survivor, Pop Stars, Beyond Belief Winner: Survivor (Alright, I confess that I'm a Survivor fan... Not that I condone with the nudity, the rat eating or the spear fishing... But the back-stabbing and betrayal makes it as interesting as a typical Hong Kong drama serial)
Best Drama Nominations: Judging Amy, The Sopranos, Touched By an Angel, Charmed Winner: Judging Amy (This drama has never stopped to amaze me with the realistic situations that Amy has to deal with everyday, be it a family problem or a difficult case in court.)
Best Actor Nominations: Peter MacNicol (Biscuit of Ally McBeal), Michael J. Fox (Michael Flaherty of Spin City), Anthony Edwards (Dr Mark Greene), John Dye (Andrew of Touched By an Angel) Winner: Anthony Edwards (He's so convincing as Dr Mark Greene that audiences have identified with him in his trials as a ER doctor)
Best Actress Nominations: Laura Innes (Dr Kerry Weaver of ER), Roma Downey (Monica of Touched By an Angel), Amy Brenneman (Amy Gray of Judging Amy), Alyssa Milano (Phoebe Halliwell of Charmed) Winner: Amy Brenneman (See Best Drama... Her performance in Judging Amy is beyond words)
Worst Comedy Nominations: Veronica's Closet, Making Love, USA High, Just Shoot Me Winner: Making Love (Why do so many TCS programmes make it to the worst list, you ask? Sigh... I guess I don't really have to explain it, do I? By the way, Making Love is the only nominee to be shown during prime time so don't bother finding out what the other three out if you haven't heard of them before :)
Worst Variety Nominations: Judge Judy, Donny & Marie, Search Party, Making the Band Winner: Making the Band (Do we really a male version of Pop Stars??? Pop Stars was so much better but Making the Band is just too disgusting)
Worst Drama Nominations: Spin, Growing Up, Mortal Kombat, Xena Winner: Xena (The spin-off from Hercules has more or less squeezed out every single drop of creativity from its writers. At least Hercules had the sense to end the show last year)
Worst Actor Nominations: Jimmy T (Making Love), Stuart Kenneth Yorlando (Sky of Spin), Marc Blucas (Riley Finn of Buffy), Bryce Johnson (Josh of Popular) Winner: Jimmy T (Just stick to modelling okay? Take a hint from Benedict Goh... You don't belong on screen)
Worst Actress Nominations: Gretchen Egolf (Amy Dylan of Martial Law), Anne Parillaud (Nikita of la femme Nikita), Irin Gan (Growing Up), Lucy Lawless (Xena) Winner: Xena (Acting? What acting? Just let the gal retire and try her luck somewhere else... We've enough of her prancing on screen with a metal ring and sword. I heard WWF is recruiting. Do I hear any takers?)
