Rip van Winkle

Hellsing Manga
Worn at Otakon 2004

This was a pretty simple costume to put together. I bought the suit and sewed gold buttons on as well as hemming the pants legs (so they are shorter). I then got a blouse and sewed black thread around the collar. Tie was bought at a resale shop, I got lucky finding that, and I bought the wig online, I had fun styling that thing. -.- For the swastika necklace, I made the swastika out of sculpy clay (had to remake it 3 times, the 2nd one was my favorite personally) and I used the chain of one of my dragon necklaces. I used an umbrella that I had but I didn't have enough time (or money) to make her rifle or her clock. I will make them one day though! For shoes, I wore my S.S. boots, I used an old pair of glasses, and I bought the gloves from online but I didn't wear them.

I had lots of fun wearing this costume, minus baking outside in direct sunlight for a while. I got hit on by a homeless man and someone shouted to me in the con center, "I love you Rip van Winkle!". I also got weird looks from people when I was walking to and from the hotel to the con center. Suprisingly enough though, a lot of people knew who Rip was and I didn't get any nonsense over the whole fact that she is a nazi. And yes, Nazis are bad.

I love Rip van Winkle and the whole Millennium Organization to smidgens. Maybe one day I can get a Millennium group together. hmmmmmm
