LA PUERTA
La Puerta, Venezuela is right outside of Valera, Venezuela in the Andes Mountains.  La Puerta is also located in the mountains and its about 3 and 1/2 hours away from Merida going north.  Its a tiny town with a population of 2,000 people.  My friends Edward and Tony (who are brothers) grew up in this little town.  Amanda and I visited there with them many weekends.  My only trips outside of Merida...talk about that later.  Amanda and I always stayed in the hotel that their parents own...Senora Zuli and Senor Nayib.  Their parents were super sweet and boy did she know how to cook!!!! This town doesn't have a whole lot to offer but the one thing it does offer is comfort and relaxation.  The friends that I made there are all so great! I miss them sooo much and I can't wait to see them again.  The only thing I really hated about going was the ride there!!! Those mountains are beautiful but they sure know how to give you nausea!  The weirdest thing about that area is that Valera the city near La Puerta is very humid and hot there but when you travel back to La Puerta its chilly and at night I got sooooo cold sometimes.  I'll never forget the hotel rooms with Amanda...we were roommates:)  Next Christmas I have the opportunity to go back and I can't wait to spend it there! Its going to be lovely...
