Shoreline Weyr: History

As the second Pass grew nearer, the Weyrs had already branched out to cover all of the Northern Continent. However, the South had not been forgotten. The South was a land far more propserous than the North would ever become, so the North's leaders took the risk of sending an expedition party down to inspect the Continent. As it turned out, the South was indeed still a very fertile and hospitable land. Thanks to the grubs, it had survived Threadfall and regenerated itself over the previous Pass.

Remembering the horrors that began early in the First Pass, it was decided that a Weyr would be created in the South. That Weyr would be in charge of protecting two Holds, which would become suppliers of food to the North in case the need arose. Thus, two Turns before the new Pass began, Shoreline Weyr was created.

It was aptly named, being along the coast of the Southern Sea. It was placed northeast of what had once been the ruins of Landing. Underneath the Eastern Islands, a mountain was found that had once been a volcano - much like the traditional Northern Weyrs. It was from this mountain that the Weyr was created, though Shoreline's creators invented the outdoors 'wallow'. Two queens were sent down to Shoreline along with the few hundred dragons, riders, crafters, and support staff from the North.

Goldrider Serenio was to be the Senior Weyrwoman, being at the time twenty-four Turns in age. Her Second, Tania, was close to twenty. They settled into Shoreline happily, putting lots of hard work into the new Weyr. Just before Thread began to fall,a Jr. goldrider from High Reaches to be the Weyrwoman's Third. Ikaese and Cosith were an unlikely pair, but Serenio and Tania were able to get them both to settle into Shoreline's routine.

First Fall was met with both confusion and determination all around Pern. Shoreline had very minor losses; those that did occur were over Coast Hold and Seaview Hold, the only populated areas in the South. Cotholds would not be allowed until the second Turn of the Pass, when the Southerners were certain they could maintain such scattered dwellings.

It is now the third Turn of the Second Pass. Weyrwoman Serenio still leads, with her Second Tania by her side. The current Weyrleader is I�kar, with his bronze Ryuuth. Ikaese remains the Weyrwoman Third and only other adult queen pair at Shoreline. This foundation leads us into Pern as we know it now...
