Hi, my name is Marie (Real names withheld to protect privacy). I have one very important request. First of all, I will tell you a little about my mother. She is 48 years old and has worked full time all her life. She had my sister and I at the tender age of 16 and 19. She was always a single parent and we grew up without the help of a father. It has been a struggle all her life to get her 'feet off the ground'. I am sure many of you who are reading this know someone who has, or is currently in a similar situation.
My mother's dream has always been to have her own home on a small spot of land and run her own business. She loves to create jewelry and has always wanted to earn a living with her jewelry designs. Her big dream is to one day have her own little shop. So, my goal is to help her with that dream.
She has been working with mentally ill children and adults for the last 10 years and currently works at a State-funded home that assists with the handicapped. The hours (nightshift) are long and hard and the pay is only $8.50 an hour. After she has paid the bills she only has $20 left to last her for the next two weeks. I honestly try to help out as much as I possibly can but there are times when I can't afford to send much. Her current living situation is much better than it used to be. She now lives in a mobile home park. Previously, she had lived in a mobile home on a few acres. The home was virtually uninhabitable. It had no phone, refrigerator, toilet, hot water, stove, washer or dryer. Nor did she have a heater or A/C. I tried to help as much as I could at the time but noone in my family could afford the $1,000's of dollars it would have taken to dig a septic, buy a toilet, lay down the plumbing and purchase a hot water heater. I asked for help from charities at that time but never heard a response. For a while, she had to bathe outside under the a garden hose attached to the outside water faucet. You can imagine how cold that must have gotten when the weather got colder. I was so frustrated because I couldn't do more to help and I was unable to get a bank loan.
She eventually was forced to leave the mobile home when the threat of the roof collapsing became evident. She moved to South Texas and started all over, having left everything behind. Thankfully, she now lives in a mobile home that is much better than her previous living arrangement. Though it is old and in need of many repairs, it is a much safer dwelling.
Please have sympathy for an aging woman who has had a rough life thus far. She really doesn't ask for much but the basics of life. If I could help her out more, I certainly would. This is why I have decided to create this website. I may not have much money to help her right now, but I am resourceful enough to build a website and ask for help on her behalf. I assure everyone who donates that your contribution will go directly to assist with her needs. We will gladly send you one of her jewelry creations in exchange for any donations and help. Every little bit counts, even if it's only .50 cents. Please pass this website along to a friend also. Please help me to make her dream a reality.
