Ginny's Roles in the books
(to be updated)
Sorcerer's/ Philosopher's Stone

In the first book, we only see Ginny breifly. We see her at the Platform and she is excited to see Harry Potter in person. She's actually the first person to notice who he is. This is probably when she develops her crush on him... just my guess.

Chamber of Secrets

Ginny starts her first year at Hogwarts. She is very shy toward Harry when she's near him, but he finally hears her speak when she defends him to Draco Malfoy in the book store, simply telling Draco that he didn't want all that attention. There we meet Lucius Malfoy, Draco's father. He takes a book out of Ginny's small cauldron and when he puts it back, he also puts in there something we don't find out until later (which happens to be Tom Riddle's diary).
There have been several attacks where students have been found petrified. They learn that a creature from the Chamber of Secrets has been unleashed and is the one pertifying students. They all learn about the Chamber of Secrets which is a secret chamber placed there by Salazar Slytherin and can only be opened by the heir of Slytherin.
Around Valentine's day Ginny sends Harry a Valentine and Draco makes fun of her for it and says that Harry didn't like it too much.
Ginny wants to tell Harry and Ron something at dinner one night, looking nervous, but decides not to tell when Percy joins the table. (It is that Percy has a girlfriend).
Harry and Ron overhear the teachers talking and they find out that Ginny has been taken down to the Chamber of Secrets. "Her Skeleton will lie in the Chamber forever." is the message left by the Heir of Slytherin. Harry and Ron decide to go rescue her and Gilderoy Lockhart, the DADA teacher helps.
When Harry goes there, he finds Ginny almost dead. Tom Riddle's memory from his diary appears. Tom is the Heir of Slytherin, and he is also Lord Voldemort. He says Ginny has been writing in his diary to him for months and she's the one who opened the Chamber, enchanted by Tom of course. Harry eventually stabs the diary, causing Tom's memory to go away and Ginny to wake up.

Prisoner of Azkaban

Ginny begins year two at Hogwarts this year. Her role is again small in this book. She is still shy around Harry, and maybe even more than in the last book, for Harry "saved her life". Ginny and Hermione seem to become more friendly with each other. At the burrow Mrs. Weasley tells the two girls about a love potions she tired to make when she was younger and they giggled.
On the way to school a dementor comes on board the train and Ginny feels pretty bad and shaky and even sobs. Stupid dementors!
