MADWOMAN'S LAMENT
Life’s a lonely business When you’re always moving on, The price I pay, the world needs me, I’m the only one. Can’t make friends, watch what you say, Study every word. Look for hidden messages. Listen - they’ll be heard. Tin-opener wouldn’t work today, An act of sabotage? They’ve all got it in for me. But I am still at large. Enemies on the corner, Spies are on the stair. Sometimes when I wake up They’re clinging to my hair. Especially watch the neighbours - Beware their sickly grins. If they ask you round for coffee, It’s a trap. Do not go in. I’m the world’s saviour. I’m not saying this in fun. But life’s a lonely business When you’re The Chosen One.
