Salmon & Trout Fishing Pittsburg, N.H., September 1995

Pittsburg New Hampshire is a fishing and hunting paradise located in the northernmost portion of the sate. That entire area that extends beyond the northern boarder of Vermont is Pittsburg. Look at a map, its a pretty good size area. Anyway, Pete, Tom and myself loaded up our gear and towed the boat 6 hours north in search of some of the area's famous salmon and trout fishing.

Saturday

Early fall is a great time to be there. Typically the air is still very comfortable, yet the water temperature drops low enough to bring the salmon up top. The weeks prior to our trip had been consistently warm, in fact in two weeks, not a day had gone by without temps reaching the mid to upper seventies. Well, wouldn't you know it; the day before we arrived, a cold front blew in with a huge low pressure system. The first day of fishing was wet and raw. Temps didn't get above 45 degrees and it poured all day long.
At the end of the day we pulled the boat out after never getting a strike.
Tom describes the water conditions in his own words...

Sunday

Sunday at the cabin it was slow getting started. Tom was cookin' breakfast... Pete wasn't much help, he sat staring aimlessly into space clutching a glass of orange juice. When we started bitching about it he had this to say.

Later at the lake the morning sunrise gave us optimsim for a bueatiful day on the lake. First Connecticut Lake was like a mirror as the sun rose and we idled out of the launch area. However that didn't last very long. Within an hour winds were picking up and blowing our seventeen footer all over the place. The second you stopped paying attention, all hell broke loose (take a listen for yourself ) . We had waves crashing over the bow at times. We crossed lines. We had tangles. And yes, we were cold...again. Tom would rather be doing something else... Once again we failed to get even a nibble.
However the weekend produced some memorable moments for us, some that will remain classics to us. For instance the gormet shoreside lunch was a site to see. Chef Tom had prepared some killer sandwiches...
we're talkin Roast Beef and "Ham too!..." Dosen't that make your mouth water!
