Late Season Ice Fishing in Maine

My brother Jon took to the ice a little late this year in search of some salmon. Along with his fishing pal Danny, they spent a weekend in March fishing for the fish that we curse at in the winter just a few miles west of the Maine border. The Landlocked Salmon is probably the most prized gamefish in New Hampshire (well, its probably second to the smallmouth bass). More fishermen spend more and more time and money in pursuit of this elusive creature in New Hampshire each year. However, taking salmon during the ice fishing season, probably the easiest time of the year to hook a salmon of substantial size, is quite illegal. In Maine however, its another story...

Well it looked like winter was making a comeback with a storm dumping a few inches of snow throughout the weekend.

But as you can see the temps just didn't remain low enough to keep the ice safe!

However perseverance paid off and they landed a couple beauties!
