| Jonathan T. What value is there in studying gender and racial stereotypes found in the media? How can it help you? The values are that you know what to do when someone calls another people different names or making fun of the other gender or races. This way its easier to know why and who some of the people say it. Some people use these different kind of stereotypes to put down a different race or gender and its not really that good either. An example of this is that boys are suppose to be strong. Thats a stereotype for boys. If some boys arent strong at all, some people might put them down. Some people could call the weak boys weaklings or wimps. That wont be very good at all. Then this whole put down thing starts happening or a fight might get started. We wouldnt want that to happen. If we study all these racial and gender stereotypes, we could tell other people why you shouldnt call these people names. It could help us in many different ways. It could make them stop and make all these stereotypes come to an end. I know it cant really come to an end, but it could prevent some people from using these kind of stereotypes against different people. An example of racial stereotypes is that they said that all blacks are suppose to be good in sports. That isnt really true. Some blacks arent really that good in many different kind of sports. Some blacks enjoy other things beside sports. It doesnt always have to be sports, sports, and sports. It could be other things that many blacks can enjoy. To me, I think anybody could be whatever they want to be. I think some people have their own advantages and disadvantages. Some people are good at some things and some people are good at others. I think people could do what they want to do. Some people also make fun of people who have disabilities also. I dont think that is right for people to do. Everybody should be treated the same and not differently. |
