Shocked Elevator Songs (2001-2002)

Just in case you've ever heard Shocked Elevator Family and wondered what the songs were, here's a handy guide for you:

The A-list -

These are the songs SEF almost always play:

*Life With Madge - very short catchy, poppy song that they normally open with. Sounds like American college rock sort of stuff.
*Joel Rothman - starts & stops, rocks like a mother.
*Juniper Verse - weird evil sounding verses that make you think of Skeletor and a big chorus that you'll either think is very catchy or just cheesey depending on how you like you're pop.
*Pig Eats Man - another evil sounding song. Sounds a bit like 'Settlement Down' by Guided By Voices. Easily recognisable cos Bryn sings 'I'd like to find out her radius' which is something you don't hear people say very often.
*Mother Visists the Slaughter House - starts off very fast and then ends with a slow bit about getting down.
*Mr Bluecoat - Starts with what used to be 'the Blues Song' and then becomes this twee sort of poppy number. It's nice.
*Some Were Devils - the song they usually finish with. Most of it's just one chord except for a big rock out at the end.

Other stuff -

And these are songs they occasionally play or don't play anymore:

*The First Wives Club - mmm, this is pure rock 'n' roll except for the middle bit which isn't. 'Our love is dead so climb in my bed, ho no!'
*70s Green - like the Flaming Lips apparently. It bobs along very nicely and has a chorus about swordfish.
*Golden Cardinals - just two notes over and over but a good song. At one gig they played it for about 10 minutes because Bryn got carried away playing a two note solo. Great.
*Let's All Make Love in My Room Tonight - just Bryn playing on his own until the last 10 seconds when the others play some widdly stuff. It's ok.
*'In the Fridge' - an acoustic song of just Bryn that's on a tape they've been giving to people. It's meant to be a joke should you hear it.
*'The Blues Song' - just a really short bluesy guitar bit they used to play when Tom was in the band. It's ended up the start to Mr Bluecoat.
*The Drink's Been Spiked - this one's long gone. Bryn used to sing the verses and dance really kitsch and Tom would sing the choruses. It was good.
*Nobody Loves an Albatros - this song had a good name but sure did suck. It just went on and on without much of a tune. Luckily they dropped it after the 1st gig.
*The Walkie-Talkie Song - so called because Tom used to sing part of it through a Tango megaphone which sounded a bit like a walkie-talkie. The Tango Megaphone Song would've been a really crap name you see. It went on too long but it was nice and a bit folky. There's an ok version of it on the Cotteridge Park cd.
*Keep Staying - this song was way too epic and was ditched a long time ago. There's a tape of it where Bryn sings 'and i'm sorry for what i have done - and he looked just like Gary Glitter' which is strange and a little disturbing.
*Amacord - named after an Italian neo-realist film don't you know, this was one of Tom's songs and sounded like Frank Black and the Catholics which was good.
*John the Baptist - this was the song they'd finish with when Tom was in the band. We used to joke that it ripped off 'Vamos' by the Pixies until Bryn bought 'Another Side of Bob Dylan' and we found out it was just a song off that sped up with most of the words changed. It was ok.
*All Here in my Memory - a song made up on the first day of 8-track recording. it was just some loose blues riffing with lyrics about 'a boat full of thoughts'. not a S.E.F classic
