In the twelve months or so that the University of Newcastle researchers have been studying the resident Dolphin population of PORT STEPHENS HARBOUR (which has now been designated the DOLPHIN CAPITAL OF AUSTRALIAÔ), they have identified most of the local dolphins and have estimated that there are more than 160 of these beautiful, friendly animals living permanently in several family groups (or ‘Pods’) in the harbour. 

 

Hardly a day or night goes by when visitors to the area who take a Dolphin Cruise do not see several different pods disporting themselves, hunting for food or just watching their human visitors.

 

They seem to be just as interested in watching us as we are in watching them. 

 

Most of the cruise boats have special “boom nets” attached to the sides of their boats where, weather conditions permitting, visitors can swim and make very close contact with the dolphins on the other side of the net. 

 

 

Dolphin Watching and Whale Watching combined with its mild Spring climate can make a visit to Shoal Bay a most memorable experience and quite often these beautiful creatures can be seen swimming and playing in the clear, sparkling blue waters of SHOAL BAY itself, which is, as you probably know, situated at the entrance to PORT STEPHENS HARBOUR.

 

SHOAL BAY is a truly delightful place to spend a few days relaxing during the Autumn and Winter & Spring months.  The weather is usually warm, there are no crowds, but there are plenty of interesting things to do and see.

 

So, if you take advantage of our Two Night Package and depending how early you arrive on the first day and how late you leave the area on the last day, you can have, effectively, three days to enjoy beautiful SHOAL BAY and the PORT STEPHENS HARBOUR District.

3) Three Course evening meals each night at your choice of excellent local restaurants, plus

For example, a combined Whale and Dolphin Watch Cruise (which is longer than the Dolphin Watch Cruise in the Harbour) takes you outside the Heads to see the whales travelling slowly North to their Winter breeding grounds in the vicinity of The Great Barrier Reef during May and June and then travelling South with their calves during the months of October and November when they are usually very playful.

 

That cruise variation would cost an extra $12.00 per person.

Another optional addition is provided by Port Stephens Coaches which operate a daily air-conditioned Coach Service direct Sydney – Shoal Bay – Sydney.  They are offering a most attractive “Special” for guests coming to visit us. 

 

For $33.00 per person including GST you receive return Coach travel between Sydney – Shoal Bay – Sydney plus an unlimited local bus pass (as far as the Anna Bay Roundabout) for a maximum of two weeks from the date of your departure from Sydney.  Bookings need to be arranged through us at the Shoal Bay Motel.  The Coach Tickets and Local Bus Pass will be handed to you by the Coach Driver when you board the Coach in Sydney. 

 

Apart from the starting point at Stand 14 Eddy Avenue Central Railway at 2pm daily, the Coach picks up at:

·         Chatswood Rail Station (west side) at approx. 2.15pm

·         Pymble Police Station (west side of Rail Station) at approx.2.25pm

·         Hornsby Rail Station (West side) at approx 2.45pm

·         And the Ourimbah Bus Interchange on the loop road on the western side of the F3 Freeway (which is accessed by taking the underpass under the Freeway as far to the West of it as you can go) at approx. 3.30pm.

That means you could have one of our beautifully refurbished, first floor, self-contained apartments which have stunning views over  PORT STEPHENS HARBOUR at no extra charge, instead of our standard double rooms which are the ones usually reserved for packages.
