“Help me Hannah!” he shouted. “Mark! For God’s Sake! Open the DAMN door!” I shouted as I banged the elevator door. “Hannah! HELP ME!” he continued to scream… his voice echoing in my mind as I tried to open the door. “Hannah!” he shouted again and again.
I jolted up in bed… breathing heavily. I covered my tear filled eyes as I realised it was the same bad dream again. I stared at the clock and it was nearly six in the morning. I got up and headed into the showers. I came out and look through the dresser for some clothes. That’s when I realised Mark’s clothes were still inside there. I quickly took my clothes and closed the cabinet. I was trying my best to forget him. Everything seems to remind me of him… again I came to my addiction to his perfume. I would just spray it in the air and smell it… I missed it. I headed to the kitchen and prepared breakfast.
“Morning Han, another lovely day with my gorgeous fiancée,” Mark whispered as he hugged me from behind. “Morning to you too,” I replied and kissed him on the lips. “Preparing my favourite again?” he asked. “Irish Strawberry Toast,” I told him with a smile.
I popped out of my memory and realised I was actually making the very Irish Strawberry Toast. I felt frustrated and mad that these memories wouldn’t leave me alone. I tossed the toast into the bin and headed out the apartment for work.
Even when I had my coat on, it was still cold outside. Lately I’m always cold… I never knew why. I walked down the road and I saw the beach where I brought Mark for the first time. I sat on the bench and hear the waves crashing.
The sun was setting when
we just arrive. We saw the setting sun reflecting by the sea. “It’s
beautiful,” Mark told me. “Yeah,” I replied. We sat by the short rock
fence and continued with our conversation till it was nearly dark. We just
clicked, as what they say.
I got up and headed to the café. My workers have already started cleaning up as I entered. “Morning Ma’am,” said Spike, one of my attendants. “Morning Spike, thanks for opening for me,” I told him as I headed to the back room where Mark and I use to leave our stuff. I went to the counter and started checking all the equipments there, making sure they are ready and working. It was Mark’s usual job as I take care of the stock. I look at the corner and saw Melissa, another one of my attendants cleaning up both Mark and Mrs. Smith’s framed picture. “Melissa? Let me do that,” I told her as I went over. “Oh… sure ma’am,” she said and passed me the cloth she was using. I stood on the chair and started cleaning Mrs. Smith’s picture first, followed by Mark’s. His smile is always so charming.
“Hannah McMahan?” I heard someone calling me from behind. It’s been quite some time since anyone called me by that name, but the voice sounded so familiar. I turned around and saw a brunette with green eyes. “That’s me… can I help you?” I asked as I went closer to her. “It’s me… Diane Fisher,” she said. Diane… Mark’s ex-girlfriend… standing right in front of me, looking rather sad. She has changed a lot since I last saw her in Mark’s house… I feared that something might happen soon.
“He always looks very charming in pictures doesn’t he?” Diane asked as she stared at the picture on the wall. “Yes he does…” I replied softly as I served her some coffee. “So what brings you here?” I asked and sat opposite her. “I just passed by… I’m a air stewardess now,” she said with a smile. “Really? Congratulations,” I told her. “Thanks… anyway… there is another reason I’m here,” she told me. I looked at her nervously. “Don’t be scared… I’m not here to cat fight with you,” she said with a smile. I felt a little relieved. “Marie wants me to pass this to you, she found it while she was cleaning up Mark’s room,” Diane said as she passed her a small blue box. “Apparently it was for you… because Marie has not seen the box before Mark married you,” Diane told me. I could see some tears gathering in her eyes. “That’s all… I better be going now, the next flight would be in another hour,” she told me as she got up and turned. “Diane!” I called her. She stopped and turned towards me. “I know it’s meant to be for me, but you can have it as a memory of Mark,” I told her as I removed the necklace Mark gave me. I grabbed her open hand and put the necklace on it and closed her hand. “He loves you too, don’t forget that,” I told her. Diane started crying. I hugged her close. “Thank you,” she whispered and left.
I watch Diane leave in a cab and I came back to the table where the small blue box was. With shaky hands, I opened the box. A key dropped out and I could see a tag on it that writes ‘Rosewater Park’. “Rosewater Park?” I asked myself. “Spike? Have you heard of Rosewater Park?” I asked as Spike passed by. “Rosewater Park? I’m sorry ma’am, but no,” he told me. “Thanks,” I whispered back. I held the key close as I cleaned the table up and started work as people started pouring in.
I started walking back from work. Just as I was heading back, I noticed the road up to Mrs. Smith’s house. I decided to have a look at how the house was doing. I walked up the sidewalk slowly till I reached the house. Just as I approached the house I saw a young blonde man and the owner talking outside the house. I walked up curiously to the house. “There! She’s here!” the owner, Mr. Swenson,” said as he pointed to me. The young man looked towards me and I finally realised that it was Kian Christensen. “Kian!” I shouted out. “Hannah!” he too called out and quickly headed towards me and hugged me. “My God! What are you doing here?” I asked. “I just wanted to accompany you for a period of time… and maybe look for a job here too,” Kian told me. “What? Why?” I asked curiously. “I thought you might need some company,” he said with a smile. “That’s very sweet of you Kian,” I told him and kissed him on the cheek. “Aren’t you staying here anymore?” Kian asked me as he looks at the house. “Not anymore… it’s way to big for me to take care of,” I told Kian as I helped him carry one of his bags. “C’mon… I’ll bring you to my new apartment,” I told him as we walked side by side to my apartment.
“Wow… looks nice in here,” Kian said as he entered my apartment. “Thanks, I did it myself,” I told him as I headed to the guest room. “You can stay here as long as you like,” I told him as I showed him the room. “Oh… it won’t be long… just till I find a place to move into,” Kian told me. “I thought you said you wanted to accompany me,” I asked. “Yeah… kinda,” He replied with a smile. “Then this will be your new home Kian… welcome,” I told him. “I can’t thank you enough… seriously,” Kian said as he blushed. “Don’t worry… just don’t forget to pay the rent to me… 50 pounds per week,” I teased him as I left the room. “Hey! That’s not fair!” he replied, leaving me laughing.
I was glad that Kian decided to live with me. I needed company; since I lost Mark I’ve been very lonely… way too lonely.
“So how are the other lads?” I asked Kian as we were having home made dinner that Kian helped with. “Shane and Gill are finally engage… few months back,” Kian told me. I was surprised… “Wow… that’s good, and how about Nicky and Bryan?” I asked. “Back in Dunlin… still in school,” Kian told me. “School? Why are they in school?” I asked curiously. “University to be precise… Nick’s at his final year and Bryan is in his second year… it’s just something they want to do because they didn’t feel like they had enough with school life,” Kian explained to me. “Wow… I never thought they were the schooling type either,” I said surprisingly. Kian laughed at my facial expression. We finished our dinner and talked more till it was late.
“Well… time for bed now… wake up early tomorrow if you want to help me with the café,” I told Kian as I headed to my room. I changed into my pyjamas and before jumping to bed, I wished good night to my sweetheart Mark.
“Mark? Mark?” I called out in the darkness. I started running around as fear started to consume me. “Mark! Where are you?” I screamed. I saw him in front of me and as I dashed forward, he vanishes. It was as if I was chasing a shadow of Mark… I fell to my knees and covered my head as I cried again.
I woke up with tears on my cheeks. The nightmares keep coming back… and I hate it a lot. Do I seriously need help? I asked myself. I looked at the nightstand and saw the golden flower picture frame with the picture of Mark and I by the harbour having ice cream all over our lips. I closed my eyes and tried to forget that very moment.
“A picture for fifty cents?” he asked. “Sure,
make that two,” Mark said as he handed him a dollar. Just as the man was about
to take the picture, Mark stopped him for a moment and pushed my ice cream to my
lips and he did the same to himself. Both of us had ice cream moustaches and
were laughing when the man took two pictures of us. “Thank you, and have a
nice day,” the man said as he handed us the two pictures. It was the loveliest
one I’ve seen.
I slam the picture onto the nightstand and this time I cried out loudly. It was very hard to cope with this… I was crying so loud my stomach hurts and I ended up vomiting in the toilet. “Hannah? My God… what’s wrong?” Kian asked as he came into my bathroom. I was still crying and vomiting. Kian held my hair up and stroke my back. “I hate him… I hate you MARK!” I shouted. “Get a hold of yourself Han…” Kian said worriedly. I cried so much after that I just blacked out.
I woke up in the hospital bed, with a needle and a pack of liquid in my hand. “Han? You’re awake?” Kian asked with his common concerned face. “W…what happened?” I asked as I got up with Kian’s help. “You blacked out… God… you scared me back there,” Kian, said relieved. “You’re always so scared of stuff do you know that? Kinda like a sissy,” I told him. “Hey! If it wasn’t for me being there, who knows what would happen to you?” Kian told me. “I would be dead… and for once… happy,” I told him coldly. “Well… that wouldn’t be good news,” said the doctor as he came in. “Hey doc… Han’s alright now… can I take her home?” Kian asked. “Well… you could, but there’s still something I have to tell you both,” the doctor said. I stared at Kian nervously. “W… what is it?” Kian too, asked nervously. “We’ve done some check up and we found that Hannah here has fainted because of stress,” the doctor said. “Is that all? Whoa… I thought it was something big,” Kian said with relive. “And you better stop it because it might not be good for the baby,” the doctor continued. I jolted back as I held my stomach. “Baby?” I whispered. I was breathing deeply as I looked towards Kian… who just fainted.
“How could he do this to me?” I asked myself as I stared out the window. “You die and leave me with a burden? How am I going to raise a child without a father?” I said as tears poured. “That is why he wants you to continue to live…” Kian said as he appeared at the door. “What do you mean?” Hannah asked. “Even if the child is fatherless… he still needs the mother doesn’t it?” Kian said as he went closer. “Is that the reason Mark? Is that why you pushed me in?” I asked. “Even if Mark couldn’t be there… I would,” Kian said as he hugged me. I cried on his chest.
I woke up the following morning, feeling refreshed. A quick shower and I headed to the kitchen and noticed Kian already up. “Mornin’!” he called out happily. “What’s up with you?” I asked as I sat by the dining table. “Got up on the right side of the bed… right as in good and happy… not the right side of the bed, which means…” Kian started mumbling when I stopped him. “God… I didn’t know you talk that much!” I said to him. “Only when I’m in a good mood, which I am… pancakes?” he asked. “Yeah… thanks,” I replied as he tossed some of his pancakes into a plate, poured a little maple syrup on it and served it hot. “Enjoy!” he said with a smile. I grabbed the fork and started munching on some really delicious pancakes. “This is good!” I said, eating more. “Thanks… me mam thought me how to make that,” he said. “Why do you guys keep calling your mom as mam?” I asked curiously. “Well… for more respect you see… mom is just mom, while mam is mom but it also sounds like ma’am,” Kian explained. I felt a little confused, but I just nodded joyfully.
I finished breakfast and got ready to go to work, it’s also Kian’s first day of work. I went in and was greeted by my whole staff who somehow manage to find out I was pregnant. I thanked them and introduced Kian.
“So… what do I do?” Kian asked. “Hmm… umm… hmm…” I mumbled as I tried to think about what he could do. “I’ll check the equipments!” Kian suggested. “Oh no! No… not that,” I told him as that used to be Mark’s job. “Umm… check the stock?” he asked. “No…” I whispered as that too was Mark’s job. “C’mon Hannah… you got to give me something to do,” Kian begged. “Umm… you can ask Melissa… she might be able to get you something to do,” I suggested as I continued with the paperwork. Kian grunted as he left the room. “So Melissa… who does the stock checking usually?” Kian asked as he helped her put down the chairs from the table. “Mr. Mark used to do it…” Melissa replied softly. “Oh… how about the equipments? Who does the checking?” Kian asked. “Mrs. Hannah did it the day before yesterday… but it’s also Mr. Mark’s work,” she replied to him. “Oh… okay…” Kian replied disappointedly. He starts to think that he wasn’t worth doing the job like Mark use to.
The day was done and Kian and I started heading home. “Hannah… I need to ask you something,” Kian asked. “What is it?” I replied as we continued walking. “You’re still not going on with your life,” Kian said. “That’s not a question,” I replied sarcastically. “Anyway… why don’t you forget about him?” Kian asked. “That’s none of your concern,” I replied. “Come on Hannah! You wouldn’t even let me do his job!” Kian said to me. “Shut up Kian! You think it’s easy just to forget about Mark? He was the only one who cared for me that time!” I shouted at him. “But who is going to care about you now when you don’t even allow them to!” Kian shouted back. I cried. “Hannah… I want to take care of you… but you don’t seem to be giving me a chance,” Kian said. “I did okay? Just leave me alone!” I shouted at him as I covered my ears. “Hannah… I’m sorry,” Kian whispered as he held me close. “Please Kian… I’ve had enough…” I told him softly. He nodded and continued to walk me home.
I finally decided to let Kian have Mark’s work. Lately I’ve been doing Mark’s work and always thinking of him every time I did it. At least now I’m able to kick back and relax a little… knowing that a little piece of Mark is in me. As I was checking some forms I was jolted back by the phone ringing. “Hello… Smith’s Tea Café, how may I help you?” I answered the phone. “Smith’s Tea Café? What a dodgy name…” I heard a familiar voice answering back. “Shane?” I asked curiously. “No… the ONE and ONLY Shane… c’mon… say it!” Shane replied. “No,” I replied laughing. “Tsk, tsk, leave you for just half a year and you never bothered to call me? You know how long it took me just to find this number?” Shane argued. “I’m sorry okay? I was busy… with… you know… heard you’re already engage with Gillian! Congrats!” I said to him. “That’s the reason I wanted to call you… Our wedding is this weekend… and I want you over here in Sligo… get me?” he threatens. “Yes sir!” I replied laughing again. “Good… so go pack your bags and bring your ass down here!” Shane said with a laugh. “Hey! Alright, I’ll be coming… you don’t have to say it like that you know?” I replied. “Sorry… anyway… looking forward! Buh-bye… oh! Bring that mongrel with you too okay?” he said giggling. “Sure Shane… looking forward!” I replied as I hung up.
“Kian!” I called out. “What? What? Where’s the fire?” he said in a panic manner as he came running in. I raised an eyebrow. “What? What’s wrong?” he asked. “Sissy…” I whispered back. “Is that all? God!” he swore as he started heading out. “Wait… We’re heading back to Sligo tomorrow,” I told him. “What? Why?” Kian replied as he popped his head from the side of the door. “Shane just called… their wedding is this weekend,” I told him. “Really? Wow! Okay! When do we leave?” Kian asked. “I’ll make the arrangements, you call in Spike and Melissa,” I told him. He nodded with a smile and left. Arrangements were made and everything else was ready. Spike and Melissa has been taking care of the café the last time I was away, so I wasn’t worried about it. Kian and I are finally on our way back to Sligo for a wedding that I wouldn’t miss.
I rung the bell and waited for the answer. The door opens and Mairead greeted us. “Oh My Hannah! You look so good!” Mairead said as she hugged me. “You too… where’s the others?” I asked. “They’re at the bride’s shop thingy place,” Mairead told us. “Oh… where is it?” Kian asked. “I’ll bring you there… c’mon,” she said as she grabbed her purse and coat.
“Mam… I don’t like black,” Shane said as he checked himself out. “Don’t be silly Shane… it’s official that you wear black,” Mae told him. “Oh mam… I want it to be different,” Shane begged. “You wear black for the pictures and I’ll let you choose your colour for your wedding,” Mae told him with a smile. “Thanks mam…” Shane said as he hugged her. “Here comes the bridegroom!” I shouted as I saw Shane trying on some suits. “Hannah! Wow… you’re here already?” Shane asked with shock. “You told me to bring my ass here, so here it is,” I said laughing as I hugged him. “Nice to see you too Aunt Mae,” I said as I hugged her. “Hannah… more beautiful day after day,” she told me. I smiled back. “Where’s the bride?” I asked. “She’s behind… in that room there,” Mae said pointing to one of the back rooms. “I’ll go see Gilly first,” I told everyone as I headed to the room.
“Gilly~!” I softly call as I crept into the room. “Hannah! My God! You’re here!” Gillian replied as she saw me. “Oh my God! You look stunning!” I said as I saw her in the light blue wedding gown she had on. “My God… you look good too!” Gillian replied. “My God… do you always say My God all the time?” Kian said as he came in. “Kian!” Gillian called out as she lifted her dress, ran to him and hugged her cousin. “Its finally time huh Gill? I’m very proud of you,” Kian said. “Thanks Ki…” she whispered as she was about to cry. “No! Don’t… you’ll destroy your make up!” I said as I handed her some tissues. “I’m just so happy you two are finally here,” she said as she wiped some of the tears off. “We wouldn’t miss it for the world… wouldn’t we Kian?” I asked. “Sure not!” he replied laughing.
“You two look terrific just now,” I said as I saw Shane and Gillian coming out from the dressing room, back to their casual wear. “Thanks Han… Gill has something to tell you too,” Shane said. I just looked at her. “Well… I’m short of another bridesmaid and I want you to fill in that spot,” she said with a smile. I was shocked. “Seriously? Me?” I asked. “Yeah… you… can you?” she asked. “S…sure! No problem!” I told her and hugged her. “Oh… thank you so much Hannah…” she replied. “You too mongrel,” Shane said to Kian. “Me? A bridesmaid?” Kian asked as he wondered. “Dummy! My best man of course,” Shane said as he smacked Kian behind his head. “Oh… sure! I will… thanks,” Kian said, ignoring the pain at the back of his head.
“I’m really glad I came back,” I told Kian as we walked back to his place. “Yeah…” he just whispered back. I accidentally dropped the invitation card Gillian passed to me earlier. Just as I bent down to take it, Kian too bent down and we touched each other’s hand. “Oh… sorry,” Kian said as he quickly pulled his hand away. I just took the card silently. “What’s that?” he asked as he saw a key on my chain. “This? I’m not sure, Diane passed it to me the day you arrive… it says Rosewater Park on it,” I told him as I showed him the key Mark left behind. “Rosewater Park is just a block away from here,” Kian told me. “It’s here in Sligo?” I asked. “Yeah… I also know that Mark bought a small piece of land there… the land is for sale for gardeners that has no place to grow their flowers,” Kian explained. “Bring me to Mark’s… would you?” I asked. “Sure,” he said and led me there.
“Weird… I never knew he does gardening,” Kian said as we saw the flowers that grows there. “Tulips,” I whispered as I saw some growing nearby. “And roses… red ones,” Kian said as he saw a bush filled with roses. I walked around and watch the flowers when I noticed a small part of the land empty where the others were filled with grasses or flowers. I bent down and felt the earth much more loose than the others. I started digging it with my hands. “Hannah? What are you doing?” Kian asked as he saw me digging. I dug and dug till I hit something hard. I then dug around it and pulled out a small chest. “What’s that?” Kian asked. “A chest… with a lock,” I told him as I saw the lock on it.
I took out the key and tried it on the lock. It then sprang open. I removed the lock and slowly opened the chest. Inside there I saw a lot of small toys and items. “That’s the wooden horse Shane got for Mark’s 9th birthday!” Kian said as he took out a small wooden horse figure. “What about this?” I asked pulling out a hanky. “That’s Nicky’s present to Mark,” Kian told me. “The yo-yo is from Bryan and the harmonica is from me,” Kian said as he checks the box. After pulling out the rest… I saw tons photograph; face down… I pulled it out one and a tear fell. It was the exact picture I took with him on the harbour… with the ice-cream moustache. The others were pictures of me alone around Mrs. Smith’s house that I never realised he took. I finally saw a familiar box. I took it out and opened it. It was the box Mark bought from the fair at the harbour. The chain was not there, but his ring was still there in the box. I pulled out the ring and held it on my chest. I couldn’t stand it anymore. I started crying again. “Why did you leave me Mark? Why?” I asked as I cried. Kian held me close… telling me that it was all right, telling me to be strong. I was hurt inside. I need Mark… I want him back.
“So… I’m suppose to do what?” I asked Gillian. “Umm… pour the petals as you walk down the aisle with the other girls,” Gillian told me. We were at the rehearsal in the church where Shane and Gillian were getting married. It isn’t very fancy but it’s peaceful enough. The gigantic country land outside was amazing. “Who are the others anyway?” I asked. “Well… I’ve got Bryan’s sister… Sarah, Mairead and some close friends,” Gillian told me. “Good… at least I know some of them,” I said relived. “Well then… we’re heading out for some fresh air, it’s getting stuffy in here,” said Shane as he came over with Kian. “Come to think of it… it is getting stuffy in here, let’s go too Gill,” I told her. She nodded and the four of us left.
“Huh? We’re not too late are we?” Nicky asked just as we stepped out and we also noticed Bryan next to him. “Nicky! Bryan!” we called out and started greeting and hugging each other. “Wow… how long has it been since I saw the two of you?” I asked. “It’s been a long time Han…” Nicky said. “What is this? Eww… the grasses are long here! It’s like a jungle here!” said a posh looking girl that came with a limousine. She had dark hair and green eyes. “Who’s that?” We asked each other. “Bryan! Don’t tell me you invited her here!” Nicky scolded him. “What? C’mon… Georgina’s the prime minister’s daughter! It’ll be big news!” Bryan told him. “What? Why is the prime minister’s daughter here?” I asked with shock. “Pooh brain here must have invited her over,” Nicky complained. “How did you even know the prime minister’s daughter?” Shane asked. “Same University,” Bryan replied. “Eeexxccuse mee~! Hi! I’m Georgina… you know?” Georgina said as she came pacing down to us. “Yeah… the prime minister’s daughter… it’s a great pleasure to…” Gillian was saying halfway when Georgina interrupted. “Yeah… yeah… I know… anyway Nicky… is this where the wedding is going to be?” she asked as she went closer to Nicky and held his shoulder. “Go away… I didn’t invite you,” Nicky complained. I gasped. “Nicky… that’s the prime minister’s daughter… show some respect” I whispered to him as I dragged him along to a corner. “Oh c’mon… just because she’s the daughter of the blah-blah doesn’t give her the rights to lift her nose like that!” Nicky told me. “Lift her nose?” I asked curiously. “Sheesh Hannah… she’s self-centred okay? I’m sick of her sticking to me all the time in school… it’s irritating,” Nicky told me. I couldn’t help but giggled. “Hey! You there! What are you doing to my Nicky?” Georgina raised her voice at me. “Your Nicky?” Shane, Gillian and Kian said in unison. “Yeah… he’s mine… now let him go!” she said as she pulled my hand away from Nicky. “Ow!” I shouted as she pierced my skin with her nails. “Hey! Don’t do that to Hannah!” Nicky said as he pushed Georgina aside. “Nicky~! That hurts!” she moaned. “Yaba-taba-boo Whatever! God you are annoying!” Nicky scolded her as he went to check on me. “You all right?” he asked. “Yeah… it’s just a small scratch,” I told him. “C’mon guys… let’s go for a drink… and you! Don’t follow us,” Nicky told Georgina as he left with the rest and me. “Nicky~!” Georgina called in a cute manner. “You alright Georgina?” Bryan asked. “Go away tubby face…” she scolded as she walked back to her limo.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were still studying?” I asked Nicky. “For starters… what difference would it make?” Nicky asked me. “Well… uhh…” I just mumbled, leaving everyone else laughing. I blushed deeply. “It would be different with Mark here wouldn’t it?” Gillian said as she drank her coffee. We all fell silent all of a sudden. “Sorry,” Gillian whispered once she noticed what she just said. “Anyway… I have some things of Mark that I would want you guys to have… to keep a memory of him,” I said as I took out a bag I brought in earlier. “For Shane… this wooden horse,” I said pulling out the wooden toy horse. “Hey… this is the present I gave Mark!” Shane said as he took the horse. “How do you know?” Gillian asked. “I carved this out,” Shane said as he pointed out some letters on the horse. “To Mark… happy 9th birthday,” Gillian read out. “Nicky… I think you know what this is too,” I said pulling out the handkerchief. “I do… I do,” he whispered with a smile as he took it. “You can have yours too,” I said giving Kian the harmonica. “Where’s Bryan anyway?” I asked as I noticed he wasn’t with us. “Yeah… where is he?” the others wondered too as they noticed Bryan wasn’t with us.
“Nicky?” called out a young blonde girl. “Kerry? Kerry Smiths?” Nicky asked. “Hey! I didn’t expect to see you here! What are you doing here anyway?” Kerry asked as she came over. “Oh… I’m here for my friend’s wedding… everyone meet Kerry,” Nicky introduced. She greeted us and we greeted her back. “She’s in the same class as Bryan and I,” Nicky told us. “So… Shane and Gillian here is getting married?” Kerry asked. “How did you know?” I asked. “Well… I could see the wedding ring and the way they are sitting close to each other,” Kerry told me. “Why don’t you come to our wedding?” Shane asked. “What? Me? I’m just someone you met!” Kerry said in shock. “Any friend of Nicky is a friend of ours,” Gillian told her. “That’s so kind of you two, sure… I’ll come, when is it?” Kerry asked. “Here… I so happen to have an extra invitation,” Gillian said as she passed her another wedding invitation card. “C’mon, pull a chair over and join us,” Kian said. “Oh… I really shouldn’t bother you all,” Kerry said. “It’s okay… tell them about the stories you write,” Nicky suggested. “What? How did you know?” Kerry asked. “It’s all over the campus magazine… didn’t you know that?” Nicky asked. “Come on, tell us about your story,” I asked her. After a few moments of thinking, she finally gave up and joined us. “Where’s Bryan anyway?” she asked. We just kept silent and raised our shoulders… indicating we didn’t know.
“I’m heading to the restroom for a while, excuse me,” I said as I got up and headed towards the bathroom. “Hannah!” I heard Kian calling just as I was about to go in. “What is it?” I asked. “I was just wondering… are you going to tell them?” he asked. “Tell them what exactly?” I asked curiously. “This,” he said as he tap below my tummy. I just stood there silently, holding on to it. “They deserve to know too,” Kian told me. “I’m afraid to,” I replied. “I’m here, remember?” Kian reminded me. “Thanks,” I said and hugged him. “But can I go to the loo first? I can’t really stand it anymore,” I replied, trying to hold back my pee. Kian looked at me with a smile as I quickly crept into the bathroom.
I slowly walked up to the guys with Kian next to me. “I’m not sure Kian,” I told him. “I’m here, c’mon… they need to know,” Kian comforted me. “Okay,” I whispered back. “Umm… guys? And gals? Hannah has something to say,” Kian interrupted. “It looks important,” Nicky said. “It is,” I replied. They just sat there motionless, waiting for me. I took a deep breath. I turned towards Kian, he replied with a nod. “I’m pregnant,” I said. The look on the other’s face were really shocking, I never expected it. “Kian’s?” Shane asked in horror. “What? No!” Kian shouted back. “Mark?” Gillian asked. I nodded with a tear. “Oh my God… that’s good news!” Nicky said as he hugged me. “Really?” I asked. “Sure it is! I mean… this is Mark we’re talking about,” Nicky told me. Gillian and Shane then came over and gave me a hug too as I cried softly. “I’m sorry to interrupt, but who’s Mark?” Kerry asked. They looked at me silently. I took Kerry’s hand and told her to follow me.
“I’m sorry,” Kerry said once I showed her Mark’s grave. “Don’t worry,” I told her as I squatted next to Mark’s tombstone. “Mark… meet Kerry, she’s Nicky’s classmate,” I said. “Oh… you must think I crazy or something,” as I stared at Kerry. “No! It’s perfectly fine… Hi Mark!” she said and waved at his tombstone. The others just stood behind us. “Hey Mark… guess what? It’s your baby in here,” I said. “I’m going to bring her or him up… don’t worry as I’m going to tell him or her about you,” I continued. “What about Mark’s parents? Do they know yet?” Shane asked Kian. “Nope… I’m not even sure if she would want to tell them,” Kian whispered back. “I am,” I said as I overheard the conversation. “Could you accompany me?” I asked Kian. “S…sure,” he replied. “Well then, thanks for tea,” I said to the others. “And it was nice meeting you too Kerry,” I continued and gave her a hug. “Me too, good luck!” she said with a sweet smile. I smiled back and left with Kian towards Mark’s house.
“You ready?” Kian asked. “Well… I’ve already did it the first time, I think I’m ready to do it again,” I said. With shaky hands I slowly rang the bell. “Hannah! Kian!” Colin said as he opened the door. “Hi Colin… your parents in?” I asked. “S…sure… come on it,” he replied stuttering as he moved aside. “Mom! Dad!” Colin shouted across the room as he headed to the kitchen. Oliver and Marie then came out from the kitchen. “What are you doing here?” Marie asked. I was still disappointed, as she hasn’t forgiven me yet. “Marie…” Oliver whispered as he led us to the hall. “I… want to thank you for the box,” I told Marie. She looked at me surprised. “I’m just doing what I think is right,” Marie told me. “You still haven’t forgiven me yet have you?” I asked. She just sat by the sofa silently, avoiding eye contact. “I don’t mind, but there’s something I need to tell you,” I said. She then turned and faced me. “I never meant to take Mark away from you like that… I was wrong, but I love him… and I know he still loves you, I saw the look on his face when you did not appear for the wedding,” I explained to her and noticed she had tears in her eyes. “I’m also pregnant with Mark’s child… he or she may not have a father, but I wouldn’t want it to have no grandparents either,” I told her. “You’re pregnant?” Marie asked. I nodded silently. “I’m sorry Hannah… I’m so very sorry,” she cried and came over to hug me. I cried too, but not from sorrow, I cried with joy. I’ve always wanted to make amends with Marie since I married Mark… now it has come true.
I took a last look at the mirror and I was dressed perfectly. The pink gown was perfect, lucky that my child wasn’t growing yet. I step out of the room and saw Kian in his black tuxedo and blue vest with a matching bow. “You look handsome,” I said. Kian turned and saw me with his eyes about to pop out. “You look amazing yourself,” he replied. “Well… it’s not as perfect as the wedding gown, but it’ll do,” I said to him with a smile. “Yeah… shall we?” he asked as he lifted his elbow. “Sure,” I replied and hold on to his elbow and we both headed to the church.
“You look amazing,” I said as I saw Shane, waiting by the church doors. “Thank you Hannah… you don’t look to bad yourself,” he replied. Shane was wearing a deep blue long coat and lighter blue vest inside. “She’s coming, c’mon Shane, and bridesmaid to your position please!” Peter said as he came towards us. I kissed Shane on the cheeks for luck before heading to my position.
The wedding went on as usual and it was a joyous event. The party was held in Shane’s house and we partied like there was no tomorrow. It was time for the newly wedded couple to leave for their honeymoon and I bid them farewell. I took my drink and headed to the empty lawn right outside the party. I stared into the star-lit night as I recalled the memories I had with Mark again, our wedding… and our disastrous honeymoon. “Hey,” I heard and I turned around to see Kian standing in front of me. “Hey,” I replied as I turned back. “Had a great time?” Kian asked. I nodded silently. Kian walked next to me and stared into the sky. “Beautiful night isn’t it?” Kian asked. “Is there something you want to say to me? Because I want to be alone for now,” I told Kian, knowing that it was rude of me to say that, but I just can’t seem to think right now. “I’ve got something personal to say,” Kian said to me. I looked at him and noticed the seriousness in his eyes. “What is it?” I asked nervously. “I think I’m in love… no… I am in love with you,” Kian said to me. I jolted back.
“You’re drunk Kian, you don’t know what you’re saying,” I told
him, not wanting to look at him. “I am not Hannah, I’m serious, I love
you,” Kian continued, this time he forced me to look into his eyes. I slapped
him across the face. Tears rolling down my cheeks. “You bastard!” I shouted
at him. People were staring at us, including Nicky, Bryan, Georgina and Kerry.
“What?” Kian shouted back. “How dare you?” I asked furiously. “You
look miserable Hannah! Look at yourself; you haven’t even done anything to
improve your life! You’re still living like Mark is going to return to you!
Face it! He is not!” Kian said to me. “So? You expect me to just forget
about him? I’ve told you again and again! I’m not as strong as you think I
am! I still love him! I will always do! No one else could my heart fall in love
with… not even you,” I told Kian as I took a step back. “Hannah…” Kian
whispered as he took a step forward. “Fuck off Kian! I never want to see you
again!” I screamed at him as I ran… Kian stomp his foot on the ground,
unable to believe what he had just done.
~Kian’s Point Of View~
What have I done?
I keep asking myself. This was always the only reason I never wanted to start a relationship. Running a risk of sacrificing a good friendship or to maintain in a beautiful relationship. Now that I lost Hannah, I’m not sure what am I to do. I wondered aimlessly around Sligo and ended up in Mark’s grave.
“Hey Mark, how are ya?” I asked. I sat next his tombstone. “Sorry that I hurt her, I never meant to take her away from you,” I said. “It’s not really your fault,” Mark replied. I turned around and saw him sitting on his tombstone. “She’s still not moving on you know?” I asked him. “Kian… I know… I’m always around you guys,” Mark told me. “Really? Why did you appear now then?” I asked curiously. “See that bottle in your hand?” Mark asked. I lifted my hand and I saw a bottle of wine. “Oh…” I replied stupidly. “You’re sleeping now… I can only appeared in dreams,” Mark told me. “Why didn’t you appear in her dreams then?” I asked him. “She’s having nightmares… I can’t get in, unless she gets over it,” Mark explained. “And how is she going to get over it?” I replied. “You ask a lot of questions… you know that?” Mark replied with a laugh. “I can’t help it,” I continued, laughing together with him. Mark got up and walked in front of me. “Could you do me another favour?” Mark asked. “What is it?” I replied. “Marry her for me… she needs a husband… and a father and you’re the only one I can trust,” Mark said with a smile. A tear managed to crept down my cheek. “I will… I promise,” I replied to him. “I miss ya,” Mark said as he squatted in front of me. “Me too… don’t worry about Hannah, I’ll take good care of her,” I said as we shook hands. “Thanks,” he replied and vanishes in front of me.
I woke up next to his tombstone. With another smile, I quickly got up and headed home. “Hannah?” I called out just as I step into the house. “Hannah!” I continued calling as I headed to her room. I knocked on the door and opened it. “Hannah?” I called out for a last time, when I noticed that her bags were gone. “Shit… she’s gone,” I said to myself.
“Is she with you?” I asked through the phone. “No… you haven’t found her either?” Nicky replied. “She must be back home then, I’ll meet you next time,” I said. “Good luck,” Nicky said before we hung up.
I took the next flight back as soon as possible, hoping to find her back home. As soon as I arrived, I quickly hitched a taxi and headed back to the apartment.
“Hannah!” I called out right as I opened the door. She wasn’t in
the living room; she could be in the kitchen. “Hannah!” I called out again.
She wasn’t there either; I finally headed to her room. I quickly opened the
door and to my horror, she wasn’t there either, but that wasn’t what shook
me, it was her personal items, her golden flower picture frame, her necklace and
some of her clothes were missing, so was a huge bag that used to be above her
cabinet. It was true, she left, and she never wanted to see me again. I was
afraid… that I might never have a chance to keep the promise I made to Mark. I
was ashamed of myself. I sat on the couch, and I started crying… I hate what
I’m doing to myself. I hate what I had just done to Hannah.
It was really hard, doing stuff without the one you love. I finally know how Hannah felt when Mark left. It has been 7 whole months since I saw Hannah. I wondered how she looked like with a bloated belly. I got up from bed and do the usual things, a bath, breakfast and off to work.
“Morning Mr. Christensen,” said Timmy, a new worker. “Morning Tim,” I replied, heading to the office of Smith’s Tea Café. I am now the new manager of the growing Smith’s Tea. I even have some companies in London where Spike and Melissa are taking care of. I sat on the chair and started work. Paperwork is always dull work, but I would sacrifice fun for the sake of what Mark and Hannah has put together. Just as I was continuing work, my secretary buzzed in. “Mr. Christensen? Mr. And Mrs. Truman is waiting for you,” said Zara. “Let them in Zara, thanks,” I replied as I cleared my table.
“Working harder everyday huh?” Shane said as he stepped into the office with a three month pregnant Gillian. “That’s me,” I replied. They sat opposite me. “How are the preparations in Ireland doing?” I asked. “Going on fine… Nicky has agreed to take charge of Dublin… we’ll be fine in Sligo,” Shane told me. “Thanks, I’m really grateful…” I told him. “Hey! It’s such a profitable job… why shouldn’t we take it? It could be the next starbucks you know?” Shane joked. It was true though; Smith’s Tea Café has grown rapidly. I already have shops around the U.K., Asia and now Ireland will have some of it.
“Mr. Christensen? Mr. August is here,” Zara said through the phone.
“Really? Quickly, send him in,” I said excitedly. “Who’s August?”
Shane asked. “I’ve hired a P.I.” I told Shane. “P.I.? A Private
Investigator?” Gillian asked. “Yeah… to look for Hannah,” I replied.
“Mr. Christensen?” said August as he knocked on the door. “Come in
August… have a seat,” Kian said, pointing to the empty seat next to Shane.
“Thank you,” he replied as he sat. “So, how goes the investigation?” I
asked curiously. “After months of searching, I’ve managed to find her,” he
said as he handed me an envelope. I quickly opened it and with some tears in my
eyes, I saw pictures of Hannah, looking healthy and with a large tummy. “Yes
August… this is her alright,” I replied, handing the pictures to Shane and
Gillian. “The address is in the envelope, it was a pleasure Mr.
Christensen,” August said and left. “I’m very grateful for your help
August, if there’s anything I could…” I quickly said gratefully when
August stopped me. “It’s alright Mr. Christensen, I’ll meet you other time
then, hopefully with Hannah next to you,” August said with a smile and left my
office. “How much was the fee to do all this?” Shane asked amazingly as he
looks through the records of everything Hannah has been doing for the past half
a year. “It was a favour, believe it or not, I found him outside the café
half conscious and half dead because of a case he did earlier and I saved his
life…” I told Shane as I took another look at the photos. “What a weird
coincidence,” Shane replied. “She’s in Singapore? Why would she move to
such a place?” Gillian asked as she checked through the records. “She must
have really wanted to leave me that badly,” I told Gillian, feeling a little
discouraged. “Hey now’s not the time for you to feel bad, we’ve got her
address now! Let’s go!” Shane said excitedly. I stared at him. “Yeah!
I’ll call up Bryan and Nicky! It’ll be fun!” Gillian said. “Gill…
it’s not a vacation you know?” Shane replied. “Oh c’mon… since we were
married you have never brought me anywhere else except this town,” Gillian
sulked. “Okay, okay… if you really want it to be a vacation, then we’ll do
it,” Shane gave up. A smile crept on my face. What would happen to me if I had
never had friends like these? I was grateful.
“Changi? What is Changi?” Bryan asked. “It’s the name of a place you deutz,” Nicky replied as we stepped out of the arrival gate. We finally reached Singapore, and our search for Hannah has just begun. “Where do we start?” Shane asked. “How about the address? We do have her address right?” Gillian asked. I nodded and pulled out a piece of paper from my front pocket. In it was the address. “What a funny name, Chou Chu Kang,” Bryan replied as he looks at the address. “That’s because we’re in Asia, just like how Dublin and Sligo are funny names to them,” Nicky scolded Bryan again. “Oh… okay,” Bryan nodded showing that he understands. “God… why did we invited you anyway?” Nicky said as he walked away irritated. I smiled and followed Nicky as we left the airport.
“Umm… I know this is a bad time… but can we at least check into a hotel first? It’s really tiring carrying all the bags everywhere,” Gillian suggested as Shane was pushing the trolley as much as he could. Gillian’s bag alone was towering over them. “Sure,” I replied disappointingly as I really wanted to see Hannah very much. We hopped onto a van cab and headed to the Orchard Road Hotel, located on Orchard Road itself and popular for the shopping malls on the street.
Nicky and Bryan shared a room, Shane and Gillian a room and I was stuck with myself in one room. I opened the door and let the bellboy bring in my bags. I tipped him generously and closed the door. I quickly sat on the bed and removed my shoes as my feet were aching badly. “I didn’t know all this could be so tiring,” I said to myself as I lay on the bed. “Sure it is, you came from a different country and you have to carry all your bags with you,” Mark said. I got up and saw him sitting on the chair opposite me. “I’m sleeping again?” I asked him. “Yeah… this time because you’re tired,” Mark told me. “It’s odd… why do I always have you in my dreams but never my grandparents,” I asked Mark. “That’s because my work isn’t done yet, theirs is finished,” Mark explained. “Your work to make sure Hannah is happy I assume?” I asked. “Bingo!” Mark said with a smile as he got up and headed to the small bar table. “Still haven’t manage to get into Hannah’s dreams?” I asked. “Nope… going to take a while more,” Mark said as he made himself a cup of coffee. “Hey… I got to go now, I’m hungry already,” I told Mark as my stomach started grumbling. “Oh c’mon! I just made coffee! I haven’t even taken a sip yet!” Mark complained. “Come again tonight and we’ll have some stout instead… bye,” I told him and woke up on my bed.
I took the phone and dialled the room to room to Nicky and Shane. I took a shower and wore something simple. I locked the door and headed straight to the lobby where everyone else was waiting. “What’s for dinner?” Bryan asked. “Since we’re in Singapore, why not try some Chinese?” Gillian suggested. “But do we even know what to order?” Bryan asked. “There should be some menus there,” Gillian replied. “I should try the pork here, I love pork,” Bryan continued. “I’ll go with chicken… it’s always my favourite,” Gillian said. Shane, Nicky and I just ignored them and headed out to the hotel to the nearest restaurant we can find.
“What’s the plan tomorrow?” Shane asked as he sipped his tea. “You guys can go do whatever you like, I’ll go see Hannah in the morning,” I suggested. “Heck no! We’re Han’s friends too you know?” Nicky said. “Okay… we’ll go in the morning,” I told them. “God! This tea is bitter!” Bryan interrupted. “And the rice is too sticky too,” Gillian complained. “Where’s my pork? I’ve been waiting for nearly an hour already!” Bryan protested. “Which was just 10 minutes ago,” Nicky replied sarcastically as he looks at his watch. “I hate Chinese!” Gillian replied loudly, which somehow gathered the attention of almost all the Chinese people in the restaurant. “Opps…” Gillian whispered. I turned and noticed Shane covering his face with humiliation, leaving me laughing my guts out.
I wasn’t able to sleep that night, knowing that I was going to see Hannah the next day. I woke up at 5 in the morning. I took a long hot bath and came out with my bathrobe. I made myself some coffee and I sat by the coffee table in deep thought.
“How dare you?” Hannah asked furiously. “You look miserable
Hannah! Look at yourself; you haven’t even done anything to improve your life!
You’re still living like Mark is going to return to you! Face it! He is
not!” I said to her. “So? You expect me to just forget about him? I’ve
told you again and again! I’m not as strong as you think I am! I still love
him! I will always do! No one else could my heart fall in love with… not even
you,” she told me as she took a step back. “Hannah…” I whispered as I
took a step forward. “Fuck off Kian! I never want to see you again!” Hannah
screamed as she ran.
“She hates me…” I told myself. I put the cup on the table and walked to the balcony. I crossed my arms and stared into the sunrise. I started to think if it was a good idea or not. I sat on the bed and I fell asleep moments later.
The curtains were closed and it was dark inside the room. I stare at the digital clock and it was half past ten in the morning. I promised everyone that I would meet the guys in the lobby by ten, but something is forcing me to stay back. Just as I closed my eyes when the doorbell rang. I got up lazily and opened the door. “What are you doing? Why aren’t you down in the lobby?” Nicky scolded me as he saw me half awake in my robe. “I can’t Nicky,” I told him as I headed back to the bed. Nicky walked in and opened the curtains. The bright rays blinded me temporarily. “What do you mean you can’t?” Nicky asked. “I can’t face Hannah, she left because of me… I don’t think she would want to see me again,” I told Nicky. “You’ve come this far Kian! You got a P.I. and all! How can you back up now?” Nicky shouted. “Please Nicky… leave me alone…” I replied, covering my ears. Nicky shook his head… “You disappoint me Kian…” Nicky whispered as he walked out. I just wrap my hands around my feet and started crying softly.
How long has it been when Nicky left, I do not know. I spent the whole morning just crying my eyes out. I walked to the bathroom and washed my face. I took a deep breath and walked to the balcony. The doorbell rang again and I opened it. “Hey Kian… care to talk? I heard what happened between you and Nicky,” Shane said as I peeped out the door. “Yeah… come in,” I replied as I walked back to the balcony. Shane followed behind with a concern look on his face. “What’s with the face?” I asked, trying to get a smile on my face. “Are you sure you’re fine? You don’t look to fine,” Shane said as he saw my red eyes. “I’m fine…” I whispered back, rubbing my eyes. Shane leaned onto the railings as he looks at the busy streets below.
We were silent for moments before I spoke. “Have you seen Mark lately?” I asked him. Shane looks at me confusedly. I started laughing. “May sound silly but I see him in my dreams… the first time was when Hannah left, I made him a promise to take care of Hannah,” I told Shane. “Doesn’t sound silly to me,” Shane replied with a smile. “Do you really love her?” Shane asked me. I looked at him for a moment. “Yeah… I know she only loves Mark, but I don’t know what cause me to take the chance… maybe because I really wanted to take care of her and Mark’s child,” I told him sincerely. “It’s not mainly because you just love her then?” Shane asked again. “That’ll be correct,” I told him.
“Is that true?” I heard a female voice. I turned around and looked at the other balcony. Hannah stood there with her nine-month-old baby, still in her. “Hannah?” I asked. “Is it true what you just said?” she asked me again. “Yes Hannah… it’s been true,” I told her. She covered her mouth, but I can see she was smiling, with tears rolling down her cheeks. “Hannah… I love you… and I want to marry you… I promised Mark,” I told her. “I… I had a dream too… with Mark… he told me that you would take care of me… he said you made him a promise too,” Hannah said. I smiled at her with a single tear. Suddenly Hannah held on to her stomach, in pain. “Hannah!” I called out as she fell to her knees. I quickly ran over to the other room with Shane next to me.
“Okay… breath in… breath out,” I told Hannah. “Easy for you to say!” she screamed back at me, trying her best to hold back the pain. “I don’t know! C’mon, you got to tell me what to do!” I told Hannah in a panicked way. “Just be here with me… that’s enough,” she said to me. I nodded as I started breathing deeper than her. “Shuddup!” she shouted at me. We were already at the maternity hospital; the others were waiting outside.
“Okay Mrs. McMahan, push!” said the doctor. Hannah was squeezing my hand as hard as she could, and this was the wrong time to actually find out about her strength. “Ouch!” I screamed. “Sissy!” she screamed back. Hannah was pushing the best she could. “I could see the head! Push it!” the doctor said. I quickly released Hannah’s grip and headed to see the head. I saw a tiny bulge and before I know it, I blacked out.
I woke up in a bed. “Hannah?” I called out as I got up from the bed. I walked out of the room and headed back to the maternity room. I walk in and saw the others around Hannah and I could hear a baby’s cry. “Hey look… Kian’s back,” Bryan said and the other laughed. “Yeah, yeah…” I replied as I walked to Hannah. I then saw her holding a tiny bulge in a blanket. “Is that her?” I asked. “Him to be precise,” Hannah told me as she showed me the cutest baby I have ever seen. “He’s so handsome,” I said. “He had his father’s eyes,” Gillian said as we focused into the deep blue eyes. “What are you gonna call him?” Nicky asked. Hannah looked at me. “Marcus Philip McMahan Christensen,” Hannah said to me. Another tear crawled down on my cheeks. I quickly searched my pockets and finally found what I was looking for. I squatted on one knee and pulled out a ring. “Will you marry me Hannah McMahan?” I asked. Everyone gasped as they saw what I was doing. “Are you serious?” Hannah asked. I nodded silently. “Of course I would Kian… a promise is a promise,” she said crying. “Thank you… thank you so much Hannah,” I said hugging her. “The baby! The baby!” everyone screamed as Shane pulled me back.
It was our wedding night, Mark junior was already a year old and I was with Hannah in the lawn with the starry night. “Is he asleep?” Hannah asked, as Mark was asleep on my laps. “Yeah… he’s so cute,” I said, stroking his hair. “It’s odd, my first date with Mark was also under a starry sky, I can’t remember when was the last time I sat under one,” Hannah told me. I held her hand. “Are you happy?” I asked. “Of course I am… I just can’t believe that I would be married a second time,” she said laughing. I lay in and we kissed. “Ahh… how touching, the first kiss,” Mark senior said. “Mark?” I asked and looked at Hannah. She looked at me confusedly. “You see him too?” I whispered back to her. She nodded at me and we both looked at him. He now had a cup of coffee in his hand. “I never got to finish it remember?” Mark asked me. Hannah was crying softly. Mark walked over to her and kissed her on the cheeks. “Kian will be looking after you from now on okay?” he said to Hannah. She nodded loyalty. “Thanks Kian,” he said to me with a pat on my shoulder, when Mark junior woke up. Rubbing his eyes, he looks at Mark senior. “Hey… You’re just as good looking as me,” Mark said. Mark junior just stared at him silently, holding on to my leg. I could see tears in Mark’s eyes. “Well… it’s time for me to go, got to be reborn,” Mark told us as he wiped the tears away. “Bye Mark,” I said to him, followed by Hannah. We watch him waved back at us and vanished. “Who’s that daddy?” Mark junior asked. “Someone special… remember him while you can,” I told him.
“Hey! The night is young, c’mon let’s go have some fun!” Bryan called out. Kerry, Nicky, Georgina, Shane, Gillian and their daughter Francesca stood behind him. I got up with Hannah hand in hand and Mark junior in the other hand. “Let’s go Mr. Kian Christensen,” Hannah said to me. “Let’s go Mrs. Hannah McMahan Christensen,” I said back. “Let’s go Marcus Philip McMahan Christensen!” Mark junior said to himself as we laughed our way back to the party.
