| In 1998 I moved from Germany to Canada. Since 1975 I have been working in various fields of art. After years of drawing and painting my focus of artwork changed dramatically. Following a visit to the studio of Wim Klabbers (a well-known steel sculptor) in the Netherlands this became my destiny. Steel immediately had a strong effect on me. It was a challenge for me to work with this fascinating material. I learned how to weld, cut and grind steel. My feelings are in every piece I create. Most of my art pieces begin with a special theme but in the process of developing they often turn out unexpected results. I like to combine certain natural materials such as rocks, roots, ashes, and charcoal with steel. To unite steel and other materials of nature is the subject of my artwork and becomes an important part of my message. The four elements of earth and the rhythm of nature are special aspects of my life as an artist and woman. The combination of these different components allows a deeper contact between inner emotions and the rhythm of nature. When my artwork is finally done, it reflects a huge part of me. The finished piece shows in its own way what the whole process meant to me. I love to work independently in my workshop or studio, which are both attached to my home. |
