Zach Parise
Profile Contributed By: Jared Ramsden
History
Zach began his hockey playing days at Shattuck-St. Mary's Prep School,
where he shattered many of the school's records. In his fourth and final
season, he put up amazing totals of 73 goals, and 101 assists for 174
points. During this four year period(1998-2002),Parise also set new
scoring records at the annual Mac's Midget Tournament played in Calgary
After starring at Shattuck-St. Mary's, Parise moved to the NCAA with
the North Dakota Fighting Sioux for the 2002-03 season and did not miss
a beat. The son of former NHL'er J.P. Parise, Zach was one of the top
NCAA scorers with 26 goals and 35 assists for a total of 61 points.
Parise also participated in the World Junior Tournament and lead Team
USA in scoring with 4 goals and 8 points.
Parise was by far and away one of the most offensively talented
players available in the 2002-03 Entry Draft, but that didn't prevent
him from slipping. The Devils stopped his free fall when they made a
draft day trade to move up and draft Parise with the 17th overall pick.
Adding the talented Parise after winning the Stanley Cup was something
that the Devils did not expect to happen.

Talent Analysis
Parise is blessed with tremendous offensive talent and is able to
overcome his small stature by playing his heart out night in and night
out. He is a feirce competitor and always gives it 110%. While not the
grinding, physical type, Parise is not afraid to get his nose dirty if
need be.
To go along with his top notch playmaking skills, Parise is very
sound in the defensive zone. His playmaking skills are his forte, but he
is also adept at finding the back of the net as well. The fluid skating
Parise has great hockey sense, and is able to read devleoping plays
before they happen, a skill that can not be taught. |

Future
The Devils may have very well got the steal of the 2003 Draft when they
snagged Parise. Many teams were scared away by Parise's small stature,
but so far, it had not set him back. His effort and attitude, combined
with his high skill level should lead to a successful NHL career. Parise
will return to North Dakota for the 2003-04 season and look to build on
last years totals. The Devils will be patient with this future star, and
will likely let him play at least 2 more seasons at the NCAA level
before he turns pro. |
