Profile Contributed By: Bob Willwerth
History
Toivonen joined fellow countryman Matti Kaltiainen as
a Bruin high draft choice. He played in 31 games for HPK in the FEL.
Toivonen also played in the WJC and sparkled with a .930 save percentage
helping Finland to the bronze medal. In June Toivonen became the first
round draft choice of the Bruins after being rated as the third Euro
goalie by CSB. 2002-03 update, Hannu played in the SM Liiga for HPK
which is Finland's elite league and played well. Toivonen at one point

Talent Analysis
Another 6'2" Finnish import who fills the net playing a butterfly style
modeling himself after Patrick Roy. Reports have Toivonen as very quick,
good feet, and smooth in his movements. He has a weakness to the high
shot as all butterfly goalies do and is working to overcome the problem.

Future
Toivonen has rare potential and has turned heads in the Bruins
organization with his play. He will play in the 2004 WJC as the starting
goaltender. |
