UPDATED AUGUST 2007. Unforgivably, the last time I updated this site was 2003. I have now reorganised material old and new into what I hope is a less confusing layout. I have divided my genealogical information into 4 parts below starting with each of my Grandparents. There is a list of surnames on this site to the left, and a complete list of every named individual in the family tree below. I have thus far left out spouses of those who are not direct ancestors (e.g; the spouses of great aunts or 2nd cousins) but will be adding them in time.
TO THE UNREPENTANT VIAGRA-PUSHERS WHO HAVE BEEN LATELY SPAMMING THIS GUESTBOOK: THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE YOUR MESSAGES WILL PASS THROUGH THE APPROVAL SYSTEM AS YOU HAVE PROBABLY WORKED OUT, BUT STILL YOU PERSIST IN SENDING THEM. THIS MAY BE BECAUSE YOU ARE BREATHTAKINGLY STUPID OR PERHAPS YOU SIMPLY HAVE NO LIFE. REGARDLESS I AM GETTING *REALLY* FED UP WITH HAVING TO ERASE THIS TRIPE FROM MY GUESTBOOK EVERY WEEK SO PLEASE GO OUT AND DO SOMETHING MORE WORTHWHILE WITH YOUR YOURSELVES.

The ancestors of Edna Phyllis Loveday OLIVER Cornish and Devonshire. The Cornish were agricultural labourers from the Lostwithiel area. The Devonshire ancestors stem from the Earl family of Plymouth and were mainly based around Devonport/Morice Town. The ancestors of Samuel George ROACH Cornish and Devonshire with a little Irish. the Roach's were fishermen from Newton Ferrers, Devon in the 18th century who later came to the Barbican, Plymouth and eventually became coal-dealers. Samuels mother came from the Mintern family who are believed to have left Cork, Ireland for Plymouth around the time of the potato famine - they also lived in the barbican area. His paternal grandmother's family were Cordwainers (shoemakers) from Truro, Cornwall - some of their lines are traceable in Truro back to the late 16th century. The ancestors of Mabel Winifred ELLENS Mabels maternal family were Romany Gypsies who travelled between Buckinghamshire and the Cotswolds. Thanks to work done by members of the RTFHS (Romany and Traveller Family History Society) their genealogy as well as information on their various stopping places and occupations have been traced back to about 1750. Mabels father was a horse dealer and plasterer in Stow on the Wold - his family had been there several generations with his grandfather's place of birth given as Marylebone, London - very little else is know about their roots - it is possible they were also travellers but more information here would be greatly appreciated. The ancestors of Charles Edward BYNG Were in the building trade around the turn of the century but were formerly nailmakers in the Black Country for many generations. A most toilsome profession by all accounts. A good insight into the bleakness of this existence can be found at: http://www.qlhs.org.uk/oracle/poverty-line/poverty-line.html
