Every 300 years a dark star blocks the sun, creating a total solar eclipse. This eclipse, called the Shisoku, is anticipated with dread. The moment the light of the sun disappears, all newborn life on the world will die. Humans, demons, monsters, animals, even plants- nothing is spared. Many theories have been posed as to why this phenomenon occurs, but that is all they are- theories.
After one such eclipse, a child was discovered. This child, a young boy of noble birth, had somehow escaped death's grasp. This boy grew up to be the terrible Demon King, a cruel tyrant who ruled the world with an iron fist. He opened the five gates to the underworld, releasing the four demon gods who ruled the abyss, disappearing soon after.
For three hundred years, the earth was under the absolute clutches of Anuas, Arakes, Byunei, and Forneus, the gods of the underworld.
Another Shisoku came and went, this time killing all newborn life save one infant boy. This boy, allied by many friends, grew to become the great Holy King. Through great effort he managed to push the four gods back into the underworld, sealing the gates behind them. He was hailed as a hero, and ruled the world through peace and harmony.
16 years ago, the shisoku ravaged the world once more. Two children on opposite sides of the globe survived. Neither of them know that they are children of ths Shisoku. They live normal lives.
While a great deal of the people live their lives without so much as a second thought about the destined child, many watch and wait in anticipation. No one has any idea who the child is- let alone that there are two of them. The world is eager, yet uneasy- will there be another holy king, or a demon king?
