II- Basics
Name: Eloise Brinkley. However, Eloise prefers to be called by her much better known alias, Captain Blood. Calling her Eloise will result in the unfortunate culprit being keelhauled. Eloise Brinkley is certainly not a name that strikes fear into the hearts of men.
Name meaning: Eloise is the french version of the Hebrew name Lois, which means "Good". Brinkley is just funny sounding. 8D;;
Age: 28 years old. Her date of birth falls around the seventh or eighth of september, which would make her a virgo.
Gender: Female. (Hear her roar.)
Race: Human.
Likes: The captain loves to tease- her wit is her bread, and sarcasm her butter. She loves a good yarn, especially when the central figure in the tale is a certain female one-eyed pirate captain. She enjoys searching for thrills constantly, and will often expose herself and her crew to great risks on simple whims. She enjoys music played on stringed instruments, which she has made sure that two or three of her crewmen know how to play. Her favorite foods are mainly seafood dishes, although she does enjoy the occasional steak.
Dislikes: Eloise hates her name with a burning, fiery passion and has done everything in her power to erase the moniker "Eloise Brinkley" from the pages of history, as well as the people who dare to call her by that name. She hates being away from the ocean for any extended amount of time, has a stifling dislike of children, a condescending distrust of men who fall into the 'dashing and charming' category, and will refuse to eat soup under any circumstance. She fears normalcy and the any lack of excitement, which she discovers is more and more evident around her nowadays. She also has a seething hatred directed toward her ex-husband, and toward the man she considers her only rival, Kaimana Kekepania.
Hobbies: Eloise has a great fondness for gambling and games of chance, for they really are the only things that bring her any amount of thrill these days. Her favorite game involves placing a stack of bills (or other paper when available) on the back of her hand and seeing how many sheets she can stab through with a knife without cutting herself. She also has a secret fondness for sewing, though she could hardly ever let her crew see her partaking in a pastime usually associated with spinsters and weaklings.
Strengths: Eloise is physically fit and well balanced, and while she will not be lifting her ship's anchor above her head any time soon, she is quite strong and dextrous for a woman of her size. Eloise is emotionally savvy and intelligent, and as such is not one to be easily duped. She's fond of drink and has the uncanny ability to almost never get drunk. (Unless it's a certain type of Wilmington Wine...)
Weaknesses: The mere mention of the name "Eloise Brinkley" has the tendency to send the Dread Captain into a furious tizzy. Aside from that and her obvious problems with depth perception, Eloise has a tumultuous temper and forces her crewmembers to walk on eggshells around her. She's a liar, a crook, and a ruffian. She also hates children and can barely stand being around them.
Goals: Well, Eloise HAD goals. Her goals as a young girl were to find a man and fall in love, which she did (Though that backfired). Then, her biggest goals involved achieving freedom, which she also accomplished. After that, she aspired to become one of the most feared and famed pirates of the western sea- that happened, too. After achieving everything she'd dreamed of, Eloise realized something few people ever do: It's boring when you're at the top. Without any aspirations, Eloise has sunk into routine and ennui. Currently, she'd like nothing more than to break the rut she's in.
III- A Deeper Look. Appearance:
Eloise is a stringy, rough-and-tumble looking woman of about five feet and six inches in height. She's quite thin and bony, though she possesses impressive musculature in her upper arms and legs. Eloise has been tanned by the ocean sun and toughened by the saltwater air, giving her skin a thick, leathery feel. She's lacking in feminine roundness- while there are a few places where there is curvature where it should be, her body tends to make angles where there SHOULD be curves. This is contrasted by her prominent, much larger than normal breasts.
Eloise's hair is waist-long and dark brown in color, and has the texture of straw. She usually wears a bandana or other cloth headgear, which she will fit her hair through the back in a long ponytail. Eloise's bangs are long and wild, and tend to fall in front of her eyes- er, eye.
Yes, eye. Captain Blood's right eye was put out at the age of twenty four during an attack on the ship of her personal (and unreciprocated) rival, Kaimana Kekepania, the self-proclaimed Prince of Pirates. Her other eye, a dark brown in color, is wide and expressive. Had she both eyes, she would be as easy to read as a book. She has rounded facial features- her cheeks are quite chubby and add a pleasant heaviness to her face that would be quite endearing were she not in possession of such an intimidating personality. Her nose is long and thin; her chin as round as her cheeks and her lips as thin as her nose. She cares very little about how she looks, and her clothes, while a bit more regal than the rest of her crew's, show little tidiness or care. She's not ugly, however, and if she were to clean up a bit she could possibly come off as quite attractive.
The Captain's style of dress usually consists of a very worn dark blue coat embroidered with gold thread, loose shirts made from light material, equally loose slacks and heeled boots. As mentioned before, the captain is terribly sloppy in her mode of dress and it would be comparable to moving a mountain to get Eloise to wear anything else.
Personality:
The Captain's crewmembers joke lightheartedly behind her back that Eloise's most prized possession is an aging set of silver dinnerware, for the metal must be rubbing off on her tongue. Yes, Eloise is as smooth a talker as they come, and is quite aware that the right choice of words can do ten times the damage of a sword. An intelligent, cunning woman, Eloise's humor is witty and biting, and no one is spared from acting as a target of Eloise's charming cruelty. Even when not angered, Eloise has a tendency to lash out at those closest to her. Once upon a time, the woman known as Eloise Brinkley was genuinely pleasant- the Captain Blood regards nearly everything with a jaded apathy that can be incredibly hard to bear.
While not terribly concerned with her physical appearance, Eloise has an inflated ego and does not take blows to her pride well at all. Besting the captain or picking on her few insecurities- her name, for example- will result in a burning, immediate desire to put the offending target into several easy-to-ship pieces. She only tends to hold grudges if they are of this type of slander- anything else that may have briefly offended the captain will fade in a short matter of time.
Eloise's greatest hatred is reserved, however, for the state of ennui. She finds that for the past year or so, all the fun has been sucked out of her daily life- she's certainly glad her name is feared throughout the seas (As Captain Blood, that is,) and she's achieved nearly everything a captain of her status could hope to accomplish at her age- but where does Eloise go from here? Eloise is sinking into boredom, which means an even more unhappy, apathetic pirate. Eloise thrives on thrill and excitement- it is what keeps her alive.
Deep down, Eloise is quite a sad woman. The dreams and hopes she yearned for as a younger girl were smashed against the rocks of fate, and forging the identity of Captain Blood is her way of starting over. With her increasing unrest and her seeming inability to shake away the threads of "Eloise Brinkley," the Captain finds herself constantly haunted by reminders of what is left of those past aspirations - perhaps the fact that Eloise Brinkley is a rather silly-sounding name is not the only reason the captain wishes to be rid of it.
History:
The daughter of the proprietor of a medium sized fishing company, Eloise was born in Librof, home of the generations old Lasaieve merchant guild. Eloise's childhood was fairly normal; although she rarely got along with her mother, (An intimidating woman in her own right) Eloise enjoyed spending hours upon end with her father on the seas; Eloise gained her sea legs at a very early age.
Of course, by no means was Eloise the perfect daughter. She was wild and irresponsible, and gained little friends outside the groups her parents really wished she wouldn't make friends with. Yet life was good; she had a loving father, a loving (though almost certainly mad) mother, and enough childhood adventures to keep her entertained for quite some time- Eloise would often lead other children on expeditions into the mountainside caves or into the woods to search for imaginary treasures. (Neighborhood parents HATED Eloise.)
At the tender age of sixteen, Eloise met the man who she felt that she would spend the rest of her life with. Well, not MET really, the pair had been childhood rivals; but it was only know that romantic feelings began to bloom between the pair. The man was nineteen year old Vincent Lasaieve, youngest son of the Lasaieve merchant guild. By age seventeen, Eloise was pregnant, and the two were wed with their parents' blessings. Soon after, Eloise gave birth to a son whom she called William.
The marriage lasted for only a year. Vincent began to see other women behind Eloise's back and to spend less and less time at home. The final straw on the proverbial camel's back, however, was brought on by the death of her father. Eloise came to understand that the Lasaieves and her father had signed a contract that would pass on the fishing company to Vincent, as Eloise's father had no male heir. Once the fishing company came into Vincent's possession, it was quickly absorbed into the Merchant's guild- Vincent had married Eloise by the request of his family, for the sole purpose of obtaining her father's fishing company.
Enraged, Eloise sought a divorce from her husband, a practice considered extreme and outlandish in this day and age. Eventually, this was granted, but Eloise was not able to keep the thing she wanted most- her son, William. Distraught, Eloise was barred from having any contact with her son. Forced to move in with her mother in the rather spartan living quarters provided to her by the Lasaieve firm, Eloise turned to drinking her troubles away in pubs.
It was in one of these pubs that the beginnings of the Dread Captain Blood were formed. One night, Eloise told her story to an aging stranger, her mind clouded with drink. The stranger's suggestion? Vengeance. Eloise came to learn that this man was a pirate captain of no small amount of fame, known collectively as Captain Rufus Crane. Rufus was somewhat of a ruffian, and while charming, his motives and ethics were often held in question. Captain Crane asked Eloise to she meet with his crew the next night.
It was then that Captain Crane, his crew, and Eloise came up with a plan to torch one of Lasaieve's ships- in fact, the very ship that Eloise had grown up on, now property of the merchant guild. The plan was put into action immediately. As Crane's crew (With Eloise at hand) attacked the ship, Eloise realized that she rather liked the thrills of Crane's pirate lifestyle. As she watched the ship burn and sink into the ocean, Eloise marveled that she had been a part of such an adventure. She then learned that both Vincent and her young son were supposed to be on the very same ship at the time it sank.
Eloise was emotionally shattered. She had killed her own son! What worse a crime was there than that? Captain Crane did his best to console her and offered her a place on his crew. Feeling that she had no other options, Eloise accepted. She burned with a desire to start anew, to erase what she had done- to erase Eloise Brinkley. This, she figured, was the best way to do so.
After a rather rocky start, Eloise proved to be a rather capable woman at sea. She learned to fight rather well, as well as how to navigate the ship and act as a con artist. One of her trademark feats involved swimming underneath a merchant vessel and scuttling the bottom of the boat, while Crane and his crew rescued the crew of the unfortunate boar (and their treasure). Eventually she was made the captain's first mate (the previous one had gotten involved in a rather heated argument with crane and can now be found in the bottom of the waters of Yamas.)
Four years after Eloise came to be an integral part of Crane's crew, he made a rather startling announcement- he was retiring. Crane told Eloise that she would be the new captain on one condition- that she raise his young daughter Zoey to be a seafaring woman like herself. Eloise accepted. (She didn't know at the time that Zoey was completely batshit crazy.)
And so, with the name Eloise Brinkley tossed to the four winds, the Dread Pirate Blood was born.
IV- Battle Style
Weaponry: Eloise's weapon of choice is the sabre, a short, curved sword with a rather large hand guard which covers the knuckles of the hand. Although Eloise has never had any formal battle training, her fighting skills are born from years of experience. As such, her battle tactics are cutthroat and very effective, and about twice as dirty.
Magic and Affinity: Eloise's central element is fire. Eloise never really took the time to learn even the basic spells, even after she has found herself in situations where she internally kicked herself after the fact for not learning the basic curatives.
Battle Style: If a fight were to break out, one could easily spot the captain in the center of the fray, fighting tooth and nail and swashing buckles left and right. While this may not be the smartest tactic to take in a battle, and while Eloise realizes this, it certainly is the most exciting way to handle the situation. Captain Blood's crew serves as an impressive human shield for the captain when the need arises, but Eloise is more than willing to be at the focus of the action.
